What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paralegal/Intake Specialist position at South Alabama Volunteer Lawyers Program?
Position Summary:
This position requires you to manage SAVLP’s client intake services, assess applicants’ legal issues, and make appropriate referrals. This position is responsible for conducting client intake by telephone and in person, screening applicants for eligibility based on program guidelines, referring clients to volunteers, and maintaining client files. The paralegal/intake specialist also will be responsible for assisting the Executive Director and Pro Bono Manager with projects and traveling to off-site clinics.
Requirements:
- A paralegal degree, paralegal certification, or 1-2 years of legal experience
- The ability to type at a minimum speed of 60 words per minute with accuracy
- Understanding of the legal system
- Familiarity with legal case management software systems such as Legal Files, Microsoft Office Suite, and basic business mathematics
- Basic technology skills to operate computer systems, software, and phone system
- The ability to deal with clients under stress or in crisis, by maintaining a calm, professional and positive demeanor
- Excellent organizational skills to handle multiple tasks such as answering calls, opening files, completing intake, preparing documents, referring clients to volunteers, and maintaining files
- Flexibility as projects may change and evolve
- Other projects or duties as determined by the Executive Director
The Paralegal/Intake Specialist is based in Mobile, Alabama but must be able to travel throughout Baldwin, Clarke, Mobile, and Washington Counties as needed.
