Souris Basin Transportation (SBT) is a non-profit curb-to-curb transportation program serving the Minot area and surrounding region. Our mission is to provide safe, reliable, and affordable rides for the community — especially those with limited transportation options.

Position Overview
The Dispatcher/Driver plays a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of Souris Basin Transportation (SBT) clients. This position combines both office-based dispatching, as well as on the road driving duties as needed. Team members are responsible for answering phones, providing customer service, scheduling rides, coordinating ride schedules, communicating with drivers, and safely operating SBT vehicles to meet community transportation needs.

Key Responsibilities:

Dispatching Duties
- Use two-way radio, telephone, computer, and/or tablet to communicate with drivers and assign rides.
- Schedule and monitor trips using the SBT dispatching/scheduling software.
- Coordinate and maintain effective communication between dispatchers and drivers.
- Adjust routes and schedules as needed to maximize on-time performance and minimize delays.
- Compile daily, monthly, and quarterly operating logs and statistics.
- Monitor vehicle and driver performance and respond to service interruptions or emergencies.

Driving Duties

- Safely transport passengers to and from their destinations.
- Safely operate all SBT vehicles in accordance with state and federal regulations.
- Assist passengers with boarding, including the use of wheelchair lifts, ramps, and securement of mobility devices (training provided).
- Maintain accurate records of mileage, riders, and fare collections.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance issues.
- Ensure adherence to traffic laws, practice defensive driving, and provide a smooth, safe ride for passengers.

General Duties
- Provide exceptional customer service and represent SBT in a professional, courteous manner.
- Perform administrative, janitorial, or maintenance duties as assigned.
- Support and comply with all SBT policies, procedures, and FTA regulations, including drug and alcohol testing requirements.

Qualifications Required
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid North Dakota driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows-based programs.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must pass pre-employment background and drug/alcohol screening (subject to ongoing FTA testing requirements).

Preferred
- Previous experience in route driving, passenger transportation, and/or dispatching.
- Knowledge of Minot and surrounding regional geography.
- Experience with vehicle scheduling or transportation software.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to hear and communicate effectively for dispatching and driving communication.
- Ability to sit for long periods, stand, walk, kneel, push, pull, and lift up to 40 pounds regularly.
- Must be able to tolerate exposure to all types of weather conditions year-round.
- Must be able to pass all required testing for bus operations.

- Compensation is hourly, based on actual hours worked.
- Must be able to handle emergencies calmly and make quick, effective decisions.
- Strong attendance, safety, and customer service record required.

- This position is currently available as a part-time position with the possibility of developing into a full-time position in the future. Full-time employees would be eligible for benefits in accordance with SBT policy.

Pay: From $17.00 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 32 per week
