Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Biller to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the billing process, ensuring accurate coding, and facilitating timely reimbursement from insurance providers. This role requires a strong understanding of medical billing procedures, coding systems, and medical records management to support efficient revenue cycle operations. The Medical Biller will collaborate closely with medical staff and insurance companies to resolve billing issues and optimize cash flow.
The candidate will have comprehensive knowledge and hands-on experience in claims submission, coding, payment posting, accounts receivable management, patient collections, and A/R recovery/cleanup. Familiarity with enrollment, attestation/re-attestation, credentialing processes, and strict adherence to HIPAA compliance is essential. Our practice currently uses Tebra (formerly Kareo) software for billing and practice management.
*Must have be comfortable with Carelon and familiar with PRP, and commercial CPT codes*
Must have OMHC Mental Health Billing Experience OR some billing experiences
Duties:
Assign proper billing and diagnostic codes according to established guidelines.
Post payments accurately and reconcile accounts daily.
Manage accounts receivable (A/R), including monitoring outstanding balances, performing A/R recovery, and conducting clean-up efforts to optimize cash flow.
Conduct patient collections with professionalism and adherence to privacy standards.
Obtain and manage authorizations for both OMHC and PRP via Carelon.
Facilitate insurance enrollment, attestation, and credentialing to maintain up-to-date payer relationships.
Utilize Tebra (Kareo) software for all billing, coding, claims, and payment posting activities.
Use Carelon and Availity platforms to verify eligibility, submit claims, and track authorizations.
Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations and company policies regarding patient information and billing practices.
Communicate effectively with insurance providers, clinical staff, and patients to resolve billing and insurance issues.
Assist with specialized billing processes such as ketamine nasal spray treatments, ensuring correct coding and documentation.
Generate reports and assist with monthly billing reconciliation and financial audits.
Proven experience as a Medical Biller, preferably within outpatient mental health or behavioral health settings.
Expertise in claims submission, coding, payment posting, A/R management, patient collections, and A/R cleanup.
Knowledge of enrollment, attestation, and credentialing processes with insurance payers.
Proficiency with OMHC and private insurance billing procedures.
Experience with Carelon, Availity, and PRP authorization processes on Carelon.
Strong working knowledge of Tebra (Kareo) practice management and billing software.
Familiarity or experience with ketamine nasal spray billing is highly preferred.
Thorough understanding of HIPAA compliance and medical billing regulations.
Excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Requirements
- Proven experience in medical billing, coding, or related healthcare administration roles
- Strong knowledge of CPT coding, ICD-9, ICD-10, ICD coding, DRG systems, and medical terminology
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems and medical records management software
- Excellent understanding of the medical billing process and insurance claim procedures
- Ability to interpret complex medical documentation accurately for coding purposes
- Experience with medical collections and resolving billing disputes effectively
- Attention to detail with strong organizational skills to manage multiple accounts simultaneously
- Prior experience in a medical office environment is preferred
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations and compliance standards related to billing practices
Preferred:
Certification in Medical Billing or Coding (e.g., CPC, CMC) is a plus.
Experience with EHR systems used in mental health outpatient clinics.
