Our Producer Development Program

SRM is launching the second cohort of its Producer Development Program beginning in September 2026.

This program is designed for motivated, entrepreneurial candidates who want to build a long-term career in commercial insurance sales, risk management, and business advisory work.

Participants will complete licensing coursework, receive hands-on training, shadow experienced producers, and gain exposure to commercial insurance sales, service, placement, and client management.

No prior insurance license is required. SRM will pay for the New York State Property & Casualty licensing course and exam.

Program Overview

During the initial 3-month training and validation period, participants will:

  • Complete New York State Property & Casualty licensing coursework and exam preparation
  • Participate in up to 12 paid in-office hours per week
  • Sit in on sales meetings, placement discussions, and client strategy conversations
  • Shadow experienced producers and account team members
  • Learn commercial insurance fundamentals, coverage concepts, and risk management strategies
  • Assist with account service, placement support, and internal workflows
  • Develop prospecting, relationship-building, and consultative sales skills
  • Begin building a personal pipeline once properly licensed
  • Meet defined milestones for licensing, training, and performance expectations

Licensing coursework and exam preparation are completed outside scheduled paid hours. SRM office space and resources may be available for studying.

Candidates should be available during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Weekly scheduling may be flexible within a part-time structure.

What you’ll be doing

As a Producer Development Program participant, you will gain exposure to the full commercial insurance lifecycle, including prospecting, client conversations, risk assessment, policy placement, and ongoing account management.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Learning commercial insurance coverages, industry trends, and client risk profiles
  • Supporting producers and account teams with client service and placement activities
  • Assisting with submissions, proposals, policy documents, certificates, and account support tasks
  • Participating in internal strategy discussions and carrier conversations
  • Researching businesses, industries, and risk exposures
  • Developing communication, sales, and client advisory skills
  • Building relationships with business owners once licensed
  • Delivering a business-first approach to every client interaction

Participants may not sell, solicit, or negotiate insurance until properly licensed in New York. Once licensed, participants may begin producing business and earning commissions according to their written commission agreement.

What are we looking for?

You do not need previous insurance experience. We will provide training, support, and licensing assistance.

A bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, Communications, or a related field is preferred but not required.

Compensation and career path

During the initial validation period, participants are paid $20/hour for up to 12 scheduled in-office hours per week. Any SRM-approved additional scheduled in-office hours will also be paid at $20/hour.

SRM pays for the New York State Property & Casualty licensing course and exam. SRM does not deduct licensing costs or seek reimbursement for company-paid licensing investments if a participant leaves the program early.

After becoming properly licensed, participants may begin earning commissions on eligible business they produce.

At the end of the 3-month validation period, successful participants may be considered for continued opportunities with SRM, including:

Full-Time Producer Path

A full-time producer role with a declining salary bridge over three years, designed to support income while building a renewal-based book of business.

W-2 Commission-Only Producer Path

A commission-only employee producer role under a written employment and commission agreement.

1099 Independent Contractor Producer Path

An outside producer opportunity under a written independent contractor agreement, where the relationship satisfies applicable independent contractor standards.
