Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Shop Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical repair and maintenance, with experience working on various types of equipment including heavy machinery, construction equipment, and farm machinery. This role requires a hands-on approach to diagnosing issues, performing repairs, and ensuring that all equipment operates efficiently and safely.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on a variety of equipment including excavators, cranes, track loaders, dumpers, forklifts, telehandler and farm machinery.
- Diagnose mechanical issues using automotive diagnostics tools and schematics.
- Conduct fabrication tasks as needed to support repair projects.
- Operate heavy equipment safely and effectively during repairs or testing.
- Utilize hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment for assembly and repair work.
- Maintain accurate records of service performed and parts used.
- Provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with supervisor and customers regarding repairs and maintenance needs.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure timely completion of projects while maintaining high-quality standards.
Skills
- Dealership experience is preferred but not required.
- Keeps abreast of all changes in various models of equipment sold and serviced by the dealership.
- Reports on each repair job providing the following information: customers’ name, make and model of the unit, serial number, hours worked, details of work performed, problems encountered (if any), the time required, parts, equipment & supplies used.
- Advises the Service Manager of any additional work required on the unit or visible signs of damage.
- Proficient in fabrication techniques and mechanical knowledge related to heavy equipment operation.
- Experience with diesel engine repair, brake repair, HVAC systems, and electrical systems.
- Familiarity with equipment transmissions, alignment, hydraulics, suspension systems, and tire service.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to read schematics for various types of machinery.
- Experience in automotive repair with a focus on vehicle maintenance practices.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting as required during repairs and maintenance tasks.
- Excellent problem-solving skills combined with a strong attention to detail.
