What are the responsibilities and job description for the Principal – Healthcare Private Equity position at Soul Equity Solutions?
Private Equity Principal - Healthcare - Philadelphia
About the Company
This is a Philadelphia-based private equity firm investing in lower middle market businesses across the healthcare sector. The firm targets companies with up to $100M in revenue, partnering with founders and management teams to drive operational and strategic growth. With a focused, thesis-driven approach to healthcare investing, the team brings deep sector expertise and a hands-on value creation playbook to each portfolio company.
About the Role
The firm is seeking a Principal to join its healthcare-focused investment team. This is a senior role on the deal team, sitting between VP and Partner, with meaningful ownership across the full investment lifecycle — from origination through exit. The Principal will serve as a day-to-day deal lead, managing both junior professionals and external partners while working closely with senior leadership on strategy and portfolio direction.
This is an ideal opportunity for a PE investor with established healthcare expertise who is ready to operate with greater autonomy, build relationships independently, and step into a near-Partner seat at a firm where their impact will be highly visible.
Key Responsibilities
Deal Execution & Origination
- Lead sourcing efforts within defined healthcare sub-sectors (e.g., healthcare services, behavioral health, physician practice management, home health, specialty pharmacy, or healthcare IT), including outreach to intermediaries, management teams, and industry contacts
- Serve as deal captain on new investment processes — coordinating diligence workstreams, managing timelines, and presenting recommendations to the Investment Committee
- Build and own complex financial models analyzing cash flows, returns, valuation, and deal structuring scenarios across new opportunities and existing portfolio companies
Investment Evaluation
- Lead preparation of Investment Committee materials including initial screening memos, full IC memos, and portfolio updates
- Conduct and synthesize deep sector research on healthcare market dynamics, regulatory trends, reimbursement landscapes, competitive positioning, and demand drivers
- Manage third-party diligence partners — including healthcare-specialized advisors, quality of earnings accountants, legal counsel, compliance consultants, and lenders — ensuring thorough and efficient diligence execution
Portfolio Management
- Take an active role in portfolio company oversight, including board meeting preparation, KPI monitoring, and value creation initiative execution
- Partner with management teams on strategic initiatives such as M&A/add-on sourcing, operational improvements, and go-to-market strategy
- Support exit preparation, including preparation of investor materials and coordination with investment banking partners
Investor Relations & Firm Development
- Assist with LP reporting, including portfolio valuations, quarterly and annual updates, and ad hoc investor requests
- Represent the firm at healthcare industry conferences, trade associations, and networking events
- Contribute to firm-level initiatives including sector strategy development and team mentorship
Professional Qualifications
- 6–9 years of total experience, including a meaningful track record in private equity with demonstrated healthcare sector focus
- Prior investment banking experience in a healthcare coverage group or relevant credit/lending background a plus
- Lower middle market deal experience strongly preferred
- Proven ability to lead diligence processes and manage deal teams independently
- Strong financial modeling and analytical skills, with the ability to move quickly and communicate complex ideas simply
- Existing or developing relationships within the healthcare intermediary and operator community
- An undergraduate degree is required; MBA or other advanced degree is a plus but not required for the right candidate
Compensation
Compensation is highly competitive and commensurate with experience, including base salary, carried interest participation, and performance bonus. The firm is committed to building long-term partnerships with its investment professionals.
