Private Equity Business Development Vice President or Senior Associate
About the Role
The Vice President or Senior Associate of Business Development will play a key role in expanding the firm’s investment pipeline and deepening relationships across the deal origination ecosystem. This position is based in Philadelphia and offers the opportunity to drive sourcing strategy and execution for a private investment firm focused on acquiring middle-market businesses with up to $100M in revenue. The firm primarily invests across business services, healthcare, and consumer industries, with flexibility to pursue compelling opportunities across other sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Intermediary Coverage: Build and maintain relationships with investment banks and healthcare-focused boutiques (e.g., Harris Williams, Lincoln, Lazard, Guggenheim, and Boston-based healthcare groups).
- Healthcare Origination: Serve as the firm’s lead point of contact for healthcare deal flow; evaluate and triage CIMs and teasers, ensuring timely internal handoff.
- Generalist Support: Contribute to broader sourcing coverage across consumer and industrial tech verticals.
- Market Planning: Develop a structured calendar of banker meetings, conferences, and regional visits (Nashville, Boston, NYC, Chicago, Dallas, LA).
- Pipeline Management: Track opportunities in CRM, monitor outreach activity, and ensure prompt follow-up and feedback loops with the deal team.
- Internal Coordination: Partner closely with investment professionals to align sourcing priorities, diligence needs, and next steps.
- Brand Stewardship: Represent the firm externally with professionalism, reliability, and clear communication.
- Travel: about 40% including 10 events per year and 20 trips per year
Professional Experience & Qualifications
- 4 to 8 years of relevant experience in private equity business development; investment banking or consulting with BD orientation; or portfolio operations with external partnership-driven responsibilities.
- Demonstrated understanding of healthcare market dynamics, deal nuances, and compliance considerations.
- Ability to support coverage across adjacent sectors such as consumer and industrial technology.
- Demonstrated success in origination, relationship management, or business development within the investment community.
- Strong financial acumen and familiarity with deal processes and transaction dynamics.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint; experience with CRM systems and data analysis tools.
- Exceptional communication skills and executive presence; able to represent the firm credibly to senior executives and intermediaries.
- Highly organized, process-oriented, and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with internal stakeholders.
Education
An undergraduate degree is required. Relevant advanced degrees are a plus.
Salary
Target range of $200k-$250k all in (base bonus)
