Job Position: Custodian Substitute
Location: Oley Valley School District
Pay Rate: $16.00/hr
Shift: M-F 2:00pm-11:30pm
Job Description:
As a Substitute School Custodian, you play an essential role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming school environment when permanent staff are absent or additional coverage is needed. Working as part of the custodial team, you will help ensure all school facilities meet cleanliness, health, and safety standards. Reliability, flexibility, and attention to detail are critical to supporting the daily operations of the school community.

Key Responsibilities
Cleaning and Sanitizing
Perform routine cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and disinfecting surfaces.
Clean and sanitize restrooms, classrooms, offices, hallways, and common areas.
Restock supplies such as paper products, soap, and other sanitation items as needed.
Trash Removal
Collect and dispose of trash and recycling from classrooms, offices, restrooms, common areas, and designated outdoor spaces.
Follow established waste management and recycling procedures.
Floor Care
Operate floor care equipment such as buffers, scrubbers, and carpet cleaners when required.
Maintain the appearance and safety of different flooring surfaces.
Maintenance Assistance
Assist with minor maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, replacing fixtures, and reporting repair needs to supervisors or maintenance staff.
Event Setup and Cleanup
Help prepare facilities for school events, meetings, or activities, including furniture setup and breakdown.
Ensure areas are cleaned and restored following events.
Safety and Building Support
Help maintain overall building safety, including assisting with snow and ice removal as needed.
Report safety hazards, equipment issues, or suspicious activity promptly.
Team Collaboration
Work cooperatively with permanent custodial staff and supervisors.
Follow assigned duties and adjust to varying work locations and tasks as needed.
Compliance
Follow all school policies, custodial procedures, safety guidelines, and equipment usage requirements.
Participate in required training to remain compliant with school, state, and federal regulations.
Qualifications / Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Prior custodial or janitorial experience preferred, but not required.
Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, equipment, and safety practices.
Ability to work independently, follow instructions, and prioritize tasks.
Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and perform repetitive tasks during the shift.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and safety.
Flexibility to accept varying assignments and occasional overtime or weekend work.
Successful completion of state and federal background checks.
