Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit accurate insurance claims using CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) coding systems to various payers.
- Review and verify medical records for completeness and correctness before billing submissions.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection strategies, including resubmissions and appeals.
- Maintain detailed documentation of billing activities within Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify diagnoses, procedures, or coding discrepancies to ensure proper reimbursement.
- Monitor accounts receivable and generate reports on billing status, outstanding balances, and collection efforts.
- Stay updated on changes in medical coding standards, insurance policies, and billing regulations to ensure compliance.
Experience
- Proven experience in medical billing or medical office administration with a strong understanding of medical terminology and records management.
- Familiarity with ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding, DRG systems, and medical coding best practices.
- Hands-on experience working with EMR/EHR systems for billing processes and record keeping.
- Knowledge of insurance claim procedures, denials management, and medical collection techniques.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills to handle multiple accounts efficiently.
