Summary
The Interpreter Education and Professional Development department (IEPD) supports a culture of life-long learning, celebrating diversity, and advancing professional excellence in the field of interpreting. We are seeking dedicated professionals who are committed to educating, empowering interpreters and educators to support the development and provision of innovative interpreter education courses, materials, and curricula that empower interpreter educators and interpreters in acquiring knowledge, skills, and competencies that contribute to a Sorenson workplace of excellence.
The Interpreter Education and Professional Development Program Manager will work under the direction of a Program Director. This key candidate will be responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of programs and projects that support interpreters who seek training to achieve minimum requirements to work as an interpreter across a variety of environments. These programs and projects also support the developing skills of students of interpreting and interpreter educators. This is a dynamic and fast-paced position that works with individuals who are both internal and external to the company. The candidate will supervise multiple individuals who are supporting teams across the department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise, support, and direct a remote team of Interpreter Education Specialists
- Manage all aspects of their assigned programs and projects, including, defining scope, goals, deliverables, monitoring and reporting on project progress, and evaluating and assessing project results
- Serve as management liaison between the department and internal and external customers
- Model excellence in instruction and interpreting
- Work with a diverse learner population and be part of a collaborative team
- Work closely with various internal customers on projects and initiatives as assigned
- Strong understanding of adult learning theories and agile development processes to apply to the development and provision of programs and educational offerings
- Reviews training plans, curriculum, exercises, and activities and recommends changes to ensure skills development programs meet the needs of staff and expectations of the company
- Stay up-to-date with training and development trends and best practices to apply to IEPD developed offerings
- Provide feedback and/or develop training content using a variety of instructional techniques and formats such as simulations, team exercises, group discussions or activities, self-paced eLearning, videos, lectures.
- Serves as a trusted interpreter education resource and ensures that training materials, programs, and services reflect the goals of the department and organization.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Superior interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to interact in a cooperative and professional manner with direct reports and team members as well as internal and external customers to deliver quality educational programming
- Knowledge in at least one of the core areas including but not limited to: Computer Based Training (CBT) training; instructional design and curriculum development principles; community-based programs, mentoring, or interpreter development; development of software simulations, videos, podcasts, vlogs, job aids, e-learning modules; lead design and development of learning objectives, classroom or virtual training instructions, participant and leader guides, interactive exercises, follow-up coaching, and support materials
- Strong conceptual, innovative thinker and team player who can effectively drive teams to complete projects under tight timelines and within budget with enthusiasm and grace
- Working knowledge of eLearning software along with the ability to learn new software quickly
- Manage, maintain, and report project documentation and course materials
- Ability to provide instruction in a broad spectrum of topics relating to ASL-English interpreting,
- Understanding of scaffolded learning of ASL that leads to a foundational base for interpreting skills,
- Experience in post-secondary and higher education
- Ability to manage stress and self-regulate while handling multiple ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated ability and experience working within the Microsoft Suite-Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint, One Note, Publisher
- Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to quality education and student-centeredness as well as a history of innovation, a global and multi-cultural perspective, and an interest in supporting learning initiatives in underrepresented communities
- The successful candidate must be able to supervise the design and delivery of teaching materials across a broad spectrum of courses relating to ASL and ASL-English interpreting.
Experience/Education/Certifications
- Experience in a core area including but not limited to: 5 years of instructional design and/or training curriculum creation experience; 3 years of experience mentoring, providing workshops, training and teaching language and interpreting skill sets;
- 2 years management experience
- Credentials from a national interpreter certifying entity (RID CSC, CI/CT, CDI, NIC, BEI, or NAD Level IV or V) and/or comprehensive state certification granted through a certifying entity such as a Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (individuals in process of achieving CDI will be considered), (certification preferred)
- Membership and active involvement in professional organizations such as but not limited to Conference of Interpreter Trainers (CIT), Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID or AVLIC), and American Sign Language Teachers Association (certification preferred).
- Solid understanding of the RID Code of Professional Conduct
- May be asked to provide a teaching demonstration and/or portfolio before the position will be offered

- Ability to manage multiple, ongoing projects simultaneously, flexible work schedule and travel schedule
- Positive attitude, team player, good interpersonal communication skills and able to work across both external and internal partners
- Ability to communicate fluently and manage staff in American Sign Language and English
