Job Summary:

The Ophthalmic Technician Training Coordinator supports clinical efficiency, enhances the patient experience, and promotes continuous staff development across multiple practice locations. This role is responsible for onboarding, training, and advancing ophthalmic technicians to ensure consistent, high-quality patient work-ups that support provider productivity and excellent customer service.

The Trainer supports clinical efficiency and reinforces standardized workflows under the direction of leadership while partnering with clinic managers and regional leadership to improve patient flow, reduce variability, and strengthen technical competency—ultimately contributing to improved operational performance and patient satisfaction.

The physicians of Heaton Eye Associates have been serving East Texas’ vision needs for over 40 years. We offer state-of-the-art technology with special services ranging from primary eye care to world-class laser surgery. Our physicians were the first to offer LASIK laser vision correction in East Texas and have performed tens of thousands of procedures since its inception. Heaton Eye offers a wide range of premium lenses including Symfony Extended Depth of Focus lenses, PanOptix® lenses, and Vivity® lenses to offer freedom from glasses and contacts after cataract surgery. Our surgeons were the first in East Texas to offer the RxSight Light Adjustable Lens, the only lens implant that allows patients to preview and adjust their vision after cataract surgery. We are the first and only practice in the area offering the EVO ICL, another exciting option offering patients freedom from contacts and glasses. Additionally, we have the only fellowship-trained Pediatric Specialist as well as the only Oculoplastic Surgeon offering cosmetic, medical, and reconstructive surgery as well as state-of-the-art aesthetic services in the area. Certifications/Licensures:

COA, COT, or COMT required

Experience:

3–5 years of ophthalmic clinical experience

Experience Training, Mentoring, Or Leading Clinical Staff Preferred

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent

Preferred Associate’s Degree

Job Duties Include:

  • Strong knowledge of ophthalmic/medical terminology
  • Experience with ophthalmic diagnostic equipment and special testing
  • Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records (EMR/EHR) systems
  • Prefer insurance knowledge
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to train, coach, and mentor staff effectively
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to identify workflow issues and communicate solutions

  • Deliver and support technician training programs across all locations
  • Reinforce standardized clinical workflows to improve efficiency and consistency
  • Monitor and support technician competency and performance development
  • Assist in reducing patient wait times and improving clinic flow
  • Provide hands-on clinical training and operational support
  • Ensure accurate documentation and compliance with clinical standards
  • Promote patient satisfaction and service excellence
  • Support onboarding and continuous development of clinical staff
  • Communicate workflow or operational concerns to leadership
  • Maintain knowledge of ophthalmic equipment and assist with basic troubleshooting
