About the Role
We are hiring Medical Assistants to provide support in the Mental Health Unit of a Correctional Facility. This is a meaningful opportunity to contribute to the delivery of mental health services in a secure and structured environment. You will assist healthcare providers and patients in their clinical care and treatment plans, ensuring compassionate and efficient support.
Minimum Qualifications
- At least 12 continuous months of experience working as a Medical Assistant in a public or private healthcare setting (Internship experience is not considered.)
- Valid Medical Assistant Certificate from a California Department of Consumer Affairs–approved agency, issued by any of the following boards: AAMA, AMCA, AMT, CCBMA, or NCCT.
- Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
- Must be fluent in spoken and written English to communicate effectively with mental health professionals and patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist primary care providers, psychiatrists, psychologists, and mental health staff during assessments and procedures.
- Collect and record vital signs and patient observations.
- Prepare patients for mental health evaluations and treatments.
- Escort patients to and from clinical appointments while ensuring safety protocols are followed.
- Administer medications and treatments as directed within the defined scope of practice.
- Observe, report, and document behavioral and clinical symptoms accurately.
- Maintain patient privacy and adhere to HIPAA and infection control standards.
- Support therapeutic interventions and provide comfort care as needed.
- Assist with patient interviews and collect health histories.
- Manage clinical supplies and ensure exam rooms are fully prepared.
- Recognize and report any unusual behavior, potential incidents, or security risks promptly.
Pay: $24.00 per hour
