Overview

This position is responsible for the daily work and work-flow within the inpatient units (Medical/Surgical and ICU). The Inpatient Clinical Coordinator (ICC) is a Registered Nurse who works with the Director of Patient Care Services to ensure operational and hospital standards are upheld. The ICC is integrally involved in ensuring that staff, patients, and other department services come together seamlessly to advance patients through their admitted stay and ensure that the patients/caregivers have adequate knowledge of goals of care and discharge plans. Contributes to a nurturing and healthy work environment for all team members, ensuring the highest quality of care is delivered.

Responsibilities

Daily Operations: Oversees the day-to-day overall function of the inpatient units by ensuring appropriate staffing is in place and assignments are made thoughtfully and strategically, monitors bed management/throughput to ensure timely transitions of care; provides clinical support and staff break relief as needed. 

 

Staffing: Ensures appropriate staffing in place each day, works closely with the Director in the development of staffing schedules, being mindful of staff competencies. Is able to step in to bedside care when needed in all areas, and when there are sick calls or emergencies. Works with the staffing office and Director to ensure appropriate staffing for oncoming shifts in compliance with Title 22 regulations and hospital policy.

 

Quality: Collaborates with Director of Patient Care Services in order to assess current practices and develop, implement and monitor practice, processes, programs and services that ensure adherence to Quality Assurance/Process Improvement initiatives.  Is an active participant in data collection and interpretation. Seeks new approaches to care delivery and current workflows. Supports change initiatives and is able to navigate change and encourage others to remain focused in the face of obstacles.

 

Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Influences the delivery of high quality care by supporting and encouraging staff input during rounds. Maintains good working relationships with other departments and encourages staff to do same. Collaborates with the Clinical Coordinators of the ED, OR, and SCU in the coordination of care for all patients admitting to the inpatient units, to ensure timely and safe transfers and smooth transitions of care.  Maintains basic knowledge of regulatory requirements and standards and helps to ensure a continuous "survey readiness" environment.  Assists in the review and investigation of unfavorable events reported via the MIDAS reporting system. 

 

Patient Relations:   Is committed to outstanding customer service and is able to facilitate a pleasant patient experience. Responds to patient or family concerns in a compassionate and appropriate manner. Seeks innovative ways to address patient concerns and shares all feedback from patients with team. Escalates issues to Director as appropriate.Work Environment: Ensures a safe and healthy work environment for all staff. Strives to support team morale.  Assists the Director in providing ongoing training and collecting performance improvement data. 

 

Communications: Attends interdisciplinary rounds, daily huddles and staff meetings; updates personnel with pertinent information regarding changes/updates and other relevant information across all shifts.

 

Leadership: Provides feedback to the director and participates in the interview and hiring process; provides input for staff performance evaluations. Provides leadership when the Director is unavailable; acts as a role model to all staff.

 

Regulatory: Maintains accurate daily and monthly checks for department: assigns daily check-offs including glucometer, crash cart, and others per unit policy. Responsible for overseeing the maintenance, restocking as needed, and outdates for crash carts.

 

Collaboration: Participates on a variety of teams and/or committees; provides recommendations based on clinical expertise; may be responsible for review and collaboration of certain policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program. BSN preferred.Experience: Minimum of 2 years experience in the Acute Care Hospital setting; Previous Lead/Charge Nurse experience preferred.Licenses & Certifications: Current RN license by the State of California; Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) by an American Heart Association approved provider.Required Skills & Knowledge: This position requires basic knowledge of inpatient regulatory requirements and standards; strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to multi-task with strong organization and coordination skills; strong aptitude for using/understanding computer applications with a proficiency in Excel, Word, and Outlook. Experience utilizing and managing data within an electronic health record (EHR), EPIC preferred. 

Compensation

Actual compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs. Eligible roles also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package.

Maximum:

USD $86.54
