Role Description The Life Enrichment Director is a full-time, on-site role based at Sonnet Hill Senior Living in San Jose, CA. This role is responsible for designing, planning, and implementing a comprehensive calendar of social, recreational, educational, and wellness-focused programs that support residents’ physical, cognitive, and emotional well-being in Assisted Living and Memory Care. Day-to-day duties include assessing resident interests and abilities, developing individualized and group activities, coordinating special events, outings, and holiday celebrations, and ensuring programs are adapted to meet diverse needs. The Life Enrichment Director collaborates closely with care teams, dining, and management to integrate activities into the overall care plans, while maintaining accurate documentation and resident participation records. The role also includes hiring, training, and supervising activity staff and volunteers, managing the department budget and supplies, and communicating regularly with residents and families to encourage engagement and gather feedback.
Qualifications
- Recreation and Therapeutic Recreation skills to design and lead engaging, person-centered activity programs for seniors.
- Knowledge of Gerontology to understand aging processes, cognitive changes, and best practices in senior care and memory care.
- Strong Customer Service abilities to foster positive relationships with residents, families, and team members in a compassionate, professional manner.
- Budgeting skills to plan, track, and manage program expenses, supplies, and resources responsibly.
- Experience in senior living, long-term care, or related settings; prior leadership or supervisory experience in life enrichment or activities preferred.
- Excellent communication, organization, and time-management skills, with the ability to plan multiple programs and events simultaneously.
- Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams and to adapt activities for residents with varying mobility and cognitive levels.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework or degree in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, Gerontology, Social Work, or a related field is beneficial.
- CPR/First Aid certification and knowledge of safety protocols in senior living settings are an asset
