The Assistant Controller supports the Controller in managing the financial operations of the manufacturing organization, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and effective internal controls. This role helps oversee day-to-day accounting activities, cost accounting functions, inventory accuracy, and financial analysis to support operational efficiency and strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Accounting
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Ensure timely and accurate consolidation of financial results across departments or business units.
- Support annual audit activities with external auditors.
Cost Accounting & Manufacturing Finance
- Maintain and analyze standard costs, bill of materials (BOMs), and routing accuracy.
- Monitor manufacturing variances, including purchase price variances, labor variances, and overhead absorption.
- Oversee inventory accounting, cycle counts, and inventory valuation.
- Partner with operations to improve cost visibility and drive profitability initiatives.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Assist in developing annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
- Prepare financial models, margin analysis, and operational performance reports.
- Track KPIs, analyze trends, and recommend corrective actions.
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Maintain and strengthen internal control procedures related to financial operations.
- Ensure compliance with corporate policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
- Support development and documentation of accounting policies and procedures.
Leadership & Cross-Functional Support
- Provide guidance to accounting staff and support training/mentorship as needed.
- Collaborate with procurement, operations, production, supply chain, and HR to ensure accurate financial data and improve processes.
- Participate in ERP enhancements and system implementations.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- CPA or CMA certification preferred.
- 3–7 years of progressive accounting experience; manufacturing industry experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with cost accounting and inventory accounting required.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and manufacturing accounting principles.
- Advanced proficiency with Excel; experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or similar).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Working Conditions
- Office environment within a manufacturing facility.
- Occasional plant floor presence for inventory reviews, audits, or process support.
- Some travel may be required depending on business needs.
Compensation: $130,000 to $140,000 annually
