JOB FUNCTION/SUMMARY: The Credit Analyst assesses the creditworthiness of individuals, businesses, or organizations applying for loans or credit. Their primary responsibility is to analyze financial statements and other due diligence to identify risks and opportunities within proposed and existing credit relationships. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Ensure that loan applications are complete and accurate, and that all required documentation is submitted. Verify the authenticity of provided documents.
  • Analyzes applicants' financial statuses, credit histories, collateral evaluations, and other information to determine feasibility of granting commercial and consumer loans.
  • Prepare credit analyses for use by appropriate personnel to facilitate the credit approval process.
  • Spreads, analyzes, and interprets projects, related entity, and personal financial statements.
  • Evaluate and manage credit risk for existing clients during renewal periods. Review financial data, market conditions, and business performance to determine if credit terms need to be adjusted or renewed.
  • Conduct thorough annual credit reviews for existing borrowers to assess their ongoing financial stability and repayment capacity. Make recommendations for credit line adjustments or renewals based on the review findings.
  • Monitor compliance with loan covenants and contractual agreements by reviewing financial statements and other relevant documents. Alert management of any covenant breaches and collaborate on appropriate actions.
  • Analyze borrowing base certificates submitted by commercial clients to determine the eligible collateral for secured loans. Ensure accurate calculations and maintain up-to-date collateral valuations.
  • Prepare and present reports and presentations to management.
  • Builds and maintains positive working relationships with internal business partners.
  • Builds and maintains a positive working relationship with attorneys, appraisers, developers, sponsors, and others to enhance the Bank’s image and reputation in the marketplace.
  • Stay up-to-date with lending regulations, policies, and guidelines to ensure that credit decisions are compliant and aligned with industry standards.
  • Continuously updates skills by participating in professional training and seeks opportunities to improve skills through cross-training offered by the Bank.
  • Completes any special project work or other duties as assigned.
  • Actively promotes and engages in the bank’s community and networking efforts. 

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:  

Education -   Needs at least a bachelor’s degree with a business-related major (preferably in accounting or finance).  Related experience and/or training. Educational experience, through in-house training sessions, formal school, or financial industry related curriculum, should be business or financial industry related.

Experience -  3-5 years of credit analysis, underwriting, or related experience.

Preferred Requirements: Basic knowledge of commercial, construction, real estate, and consumer loan underwriting, processing, tracking and documentation.  Related state and federal loan regulations and other Bank lending policies. Proficient in computer operation; and spreadsheet software, specifically Microsoft Excel. Basic math skills; calculate interest, proportions, and percentages; balance accounts; add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; locate routine mathematical errors; compute rate, ratio, and percent, including the drafting and interpretation of charts and graphs.
