Position Summary
The College & Career Advisor will work in collaboration with the Director of College & Career Readiness, the SHS College & Career Counselor, and the SHS School Counseling department to support Somerville High School students in postsecondary planning.

Assisting students with postsecondary planning which may include but is not limited to:
The College & Career Advisor will work in collaboration with the Director of College & Career Readiness, the SHS College & Career Counselor, and the SHS School Counseling department to support Somerville High School students in postsecondary planning.

Assisting students with postsecondary planning which may include but is not limited to:
- Individual meetings with students and families
- Guiding students in making college lists
- Communicating with student, family, school counselor, and teachers on student’s college process as needed
- Application and essay review
- Supporting students with timely submission of application and financial aid materials
- Supporting students in applying for scholarships
- Resume review and workforce development coaching
- Interview coaching
- Supporting students in understanding and selecting career training programs
- Providing career and postsecondary information consistent with students’ aspirations, abilities, and interests
- Working collaboratively with the school counseling department and in order to ensure the best experience and outcomes for students.
- Maintaining detailed records of student interactions and student progress toward post secondary goals
- Assisting with college entrance testing administration (SAT, ACT, PSAT, AP)
- Managing student applications and supporting materials on Naviance
- Arranging and chaperoning post secondary field trips (college tours, etc.)
- One-time post secondary workshops to students in a classroom setting
- Teaching a 6-day college & career unit to 9th grade students throughout the year
- Facilitating group support for seniors in the SHS CTE program
- Presenting to students and families virtually and in-person on post secondary topics during evening or weekend events
- Participating in professional development necessary to remain current with college & career counseling practices.
- Participating in ongoing supervision to ensure that counseling practices are consistent with current standards, and legal and ethical guidelines as determined by the NACAC (National Association of College Admissions Counseling), ACA (American Counseling Association) and ASCA (American School Counseling Association).
- Other duties as assigned by the Department Head or Principal.
- Bachelor’s degree or experience in relevant field
- Exceptional organizational skills and time management
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with students, parents, and colleagues
- Excellent teamwork, initiative, solution-focused mindset, professional demeanor, and positivity
- Direct experience with high school students preferred but not required
- Knowledge of college and career readiness preferred but not required
- Spanish, Portuguese, or Haitian Creole speaking ability preferred but not required
- Position Type: Part Time/Yearly Appointment
- Schedule: July 2026-June 2027 /Maximum of up to 19 hours per week
- Compensation: $30 per hour
- Union Status: Non Union

- Position Reports to: The School Principal and the Directo of College & Career Readiness
Salary : $30
