Position Summary
The goal of the High School Mentor is to support young musicians in El Sistema Somerville and serve as postitive role models in and outside of the music classroom. Mentors will assist Teaching Artists in musical instruction while fostering a collabortive environment and helping to build a strong sense of personal artistry and community amongst students.

Work Status: Part Time
Schedule: School Year, Monday - Friday
Monday thru Friday 3:00pm - 5:45pm
Location: EAST SOMERVILLE COMMUNITY SCHOOL
Compensation: $18.28 per work hour
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Benefits: Not benefits eligible (part-time, grant-funded position)

- Assisting Teaching Artists with during sectionals, rehearsals, and lessons by providing peer support to younger students with instrument practice and musicianship
- Modeling and reinforcing positive behavior and teamwork
- Helping with classroom and stage setup
- Assisting in monitoring downtime and transitions
- Maintaining adequate knowledge of technique, fundamentals, and musicianship skills
- Current SPS High School student with 4 years of instrument experience
- Strong communication, leadership, and collaboration skills
- El Sistema Somerville graduates preferred
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
