Youth Program Facilitator

Join Somerville Media Center (SMC), a dynamic public access media center dedicated to empowering our diverse community through creative expression and free speech. We are currently seeking a Program Facilitator to support our youth media programs and help foster a creative and educational environment for young participants. You will be part of a small but mighty team at SMC dedicated to promoting the voices of Somerville’s underserved and under-represented communities.

Responsibilities

• Mentor and support youth participants in our weekly after school programs, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
• Facilitate the production of multimedia content by participants in SMC's youth program.
• Help plan and organize media projects, ensuring resources and timelines are managed effectively.
• Support administrative tasks such as scheduling, maintaining equipment, and managing project documentation.
• Ensure safety and cleanliness standards of the media production areas.

Qualifications

• Prior experience in media production or a related field is highly valued.
• Some experience in media production tools and software, such as Final Cut Pro or Adobe Creative Cloud.
• Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with youth and colleagues.
• Creativity and a passion for working with young people.
• Patience, empathy, and the ability to create a supportive environment.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
• All SMC staff working with youth must complete a CORI and SORI background check.

Supervision Relationship

Program Facilitators are supervised by the Program Director and/or the Executive Director.

Schedule

Program Facilitators work hourly on a weekly schedule for 8 hours per week typically on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1PM to 5PM.

There are opportunities for additional hours for events, productions, special projects, set-up, professional development, and planning, depending on the season.

Somerville Media Center is closed on State and Federal legal holidays. SMC is closed Saturday through Monday when a holiday falls on Monday.

Wages and Benefits

Youth Program Facilitators earn $17 per hour. Part-time employees accrue paid sick time on a basis of 1 hour per 30 hours worked. All part-time employees are covered by workers’ compensation insurance. All employees may choose to make pre-tax contributions to a 401k retirement account.
