Position Summary
Assess, triage, and treat people with psychiatric diagnoses and medical issues. Provide care coordination between individuals, their families, doctors, and other health professionals. Responsible for providing person-centered, trauma-informed medical and psychiatric nursing assessments and interventions. Work collaboratively with Psychiatrists, APNs, Case Managers, and all departments at the Center to provide essential nursing functions. Psychiatric Nurses provide direct care to clients, which includes facilitating social and emotional needs, supervising medication schedules, and evaluating progress.
Essential Functions
- Respond to and manage physical and mental health crises.
- Perform annual and initial intake health and nutrition screens. Obtain and record vital signs and other health data.
- Provide education to clients regarding medication, health issues, resources needed to assist client with obtaining primary care physician as well as dentist.
- Administer and document injectable medications. Obtain urine drug screens. Completing medication reconciliation, aiding with completing screening tools necessary to review with prescriber.
- Maintain medication inventory. Coordinate Clozaril protocol - registering clients and obtaining, recording laboratory results, and coordinating with pharmacies.
- Triage and respond to phone calls for medication refills, client, and family concerns, reported side effects, psychiatric emergencies, scheduling client appointments.
- Initiate and complete medication prior authorizations. Assist prescriber with following up on appeals to insurance companies.
- Provide nurse care coordination with outside agencies and health care providers and linking clients to Primary Care services and obtaining appointments with specialists.
- Fax and file documents. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Essential
- NJ state Registered Nurse License.
- Minimum of one year experience in medical, psychiatric, and mental health setting.
- CPR/BLS Certified by American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
- NJ Driver’s License in good standing.
- Excellent communication, public relation, and diplomacy skills.
- Understanding of trauma-informed, wellness and recovery, person-centered delivery of care, and biopsychosocial development through the life span.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with behavioral health clients, referral sources, and community agencies. Experience/sensitivity in working with culturally diverse populations.
Preferred
- BSN degree in nursing with a minimum of one year experience in a psychiatric/mental health and medical setting. Bilingual English/Spanish.
Salary: $71,000-$94,000/year
