Communications Technician

Essential Functions

• Inspects, repairs, maintains, and/or installs radio equipment, communications equipment, pagers, emergency generators, towers, and antennas.
• Orders parts for repairs.
• Installs, maintains, inspects, repairs, and services all County and shared service clients’ 2-way radio equipment.
• Uses various types of test equipment such as service monitors, spectrum analyzer, computers, and volt meters.
• Makes emergency radio repairs, troubleshoots malfunctions and breakdowns; inspects work in progress and completed work for defects, fire hazards, or other unsafe conditions.
• Works from electronic schematics, plans, and specifications in accordance with established procedures.
• Maintains records of equipment used, work done, and time spent.
• May be assigned work as needed or in an emergent situation.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Essential

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read and interpret schematic plans and parts layouts.
• Ability to read, write and speak English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position.
• General knowledge of AC & DC power system
• Valid New Jersey driver’s license.
• Available for emergencies.
Certificates of successful of completion of the ICS-100, ICS-200, and NIMS IS-700 courses.

Preferred

• Radio Technician training
• FCC General Class License
• Two (2) years' hands-on experience in 2-way communications
• Five (5) years' work experience involving programming, installation, inspection, repair, servicing, and maintenance of radio equipment, communications equipment, base station , antenna, and tower maintenance work
• Knowledge of 2-way radio communication
• Knowledge of the nomenclature of programming, installation, and repairs of radio equipment
Proficiency with Motorola Radio Service Software (MRSS), MCC 7500 Consoles and Motorola Astro 25

Part-time, 25 hours/week

Salary/Pay: $31.00/hour
