Under close supervision of the Keyboarding Clerk-4, performs routine, repetitive clerical work involving the processing documents in a variety of functions; formats and key enters/types correspondence, documents, reports, charts and other materials on a computer console, typewriter, or other key entry device used by the agency; does other related duties as required. In addition, the definition of this Title, and the related duties and responsibilities in the State of New Jersey Civil Service Job Specification for Keyboarding Clerk 1 are incorporated as if fully set forth herein.
Examples of the work and essential functions for this position are illustrative only. Keyboarding clerks typically spend a majority of their work time (more than 50%) typing or operating keyboard equipment. Speed and accuracy are essential for all keyboarding positions. When performing keyboarding clerk functions, the Keyboarding Clerk may not perform all the job duties listed in the State Job Specification, however, key duties and competencies of the Keyboarding-1 position are specifically identified below.

Under close supervision of the Keyboarding Clerk-4, the Keyboarding Clerk-1 is responsible for the following functions:
- Front Desk Duties – greet clients; distribute appropriate forms (Pre-Intake, Food Stamp Application, Re-Evaluation, etc.);
- Notify appropriate department and worker of client’s need;
- Record all client and visitor information in Client Tracking Program;
- Distribute and keep record of all visitor badges distributed;
- Provide and maintain records of interpreters used by agency staff in Reception Area;
- Provide client with Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) processing form for EBT card, pinning EBT cards, instruction video and photo identification card;
- Transfer client information to appropriate support staff to start EBT process;
- Operate various types of office and mail processing machines such as a keyboard, typewriter, calculator, computer printer, sorter, photo-copier, fax machine, stamping machine, labeling machine, among others;
- Perform simple maintenance tasks on office and mail processing machines such as adding toner, paper or changing print cartridges or ribbons;
- Type routine and/or non-routine correspondence with speed, accuracy and neatness; files records;
- Scan and index records in the DIMS program for the Income Maintenance and Service Unit;
- Operate switchboard;
- Call Center operations;
- Sort and deliver daily mail and interoffice packets in the Somerville Office;
- Deliver packets to the field offices as needed;
- Collect outgoing mail at various times and deliver to mailroom;
- Maintain high standards of confidentiality as required by applicable law; and
- Other duties as assigned.
