About Somerset Academy Avenir
Somerset Academy Avenir is expanding to include a private middle school opening in August 2026 on our Palm Beach Gardens campus. Building on the success of our K–5 STEM charter, our middle school will offer an innovative, student-centered program designed to prepare students for high school and beyond.
Our program blends academic rigor with real-world application, emphasizing Project/Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and an entrepreneurial mindset. We are committed to cultivating a nurturing, innovative, and academically rigorous environment where students develop as critical thinkers, effective communicators, and future leaders.
Position Overview
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated 5th/6th Grade ELA & Social Studies Teacher to join our founding middle school team. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the culture, curriculum, and instructional practices of a new program.
- 5th Grade: Instruction follows a structured elementary model aligned to Florida standards.
- 6th Grade: Instruction is delivered through a Project/Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model with an entrepreneurial focus, integrating literacy, research, and real-world application.
The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, flexible, collaborative, and deeply committed to student achievement and character development.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based instruction in English Language Arts and Social Studies
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students, including English Language Learners and students with exceptionalities
- Create a safe, inclusive, and positive classroom environment that promotes student voice and a love of learning
- Utilize data to inform instruction, assess student progress, and adjust teaching strategies to improve outcomes
- Design and facilitate project-based learning experiences (6th grade) that incorporate research and inquiry, writing across genres, civic engagement and global awareness, entrepreneurial thinking and problem-solving
- Collaborate with colleagues to design interdisciplinary learning experiences
- Communicate effectively with families to support student growth
- Participate in professional development, team planning, and school-wide initiatives
- Support extracurricular programs, school events, and performances that enrich student life
- Uphold the mission, vision, and values of Somerset Academy Avenir
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, Social Studies, or related field (required)
- Valid Florida Teaching Certification in ELA and/or Social Studies (required)
- Prior teaching experience preferred, but not required for exceptional candidates
- Strong classroom management skills and a student-centered teaching philosophy
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- A growth mindset and commitment to continuous improvement
