Are you an experienced Veterinary Assistant who loves both puppies and parrots… kittens and reptiles… and everything in between?
At Somers Avenue Animal Hospital, we’re more than just a veterinary clinic—we’re a close-knit, personable team that prides itself on delivering exceptional care to both small animals and exotics. We’re looking for a compassionate, motivated, and experienced Veterinary Assistant who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and is passionate about making a difference for pets and their people.
What You’ll Do
- Assist veterinarians and technicians with exams, treatments, and surgical procedures
- Safely handle and restrain a variety of species (yes, even the spicy ones!)
- Prepare patients for surgery and support anesthesia monitoring and recovery
- Administer medications and vaccines as directed
- Perform laboratory tasks such as blood draws, urinalysis, and diagnostic testing
- Maintain accurate and thorough medical records
- Educate clients on preventive care, nutrition, and overall pet wellness
- Help keep our hospital clean, organized, and running smoothly
- Support grooming basics like nail trims and bathing when needed
What We’re Looking For
- Previous veterinary assistant or technician experience (required)
- Strong knowledge of veterinary terminology, anatomy, and animal care
- Confidence in animal handling, restraint, and patient care
- Experience with catheter placement and critical care is a plus
- Familiarity with dental procedures and terminology preferred
- Laboratory experience is a bonus
- Comfort working with exotic species (or willingness to learn!)
- Experience with Idexx Neo software is a plus
