Position Summary The Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical equipment and systems used in wastewater treatment operations. This role ensures that all equipment operates efficiently and reliably to support compliance with environmental and regulatory standards. The Mechanic works closely with operational staff to minimize downtime and implement preventive maintenance programs.
Key Responsibilities Equipment Maintenance & Repair: Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical equipment, including pumps, motors, blowers, valves, and piping systems. Perform scheduled preventive maintenance to minimize equipment downtime.
System Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve mechanical issues affecting plant operations. Collaborate with operations and engineering teams to address complex system failures.
Installation & Upgrades: Assist in the installation, testing, and commissioning of new equipment and systems. Recommend upgrades or replacements to improve operational efficiency.
Documentation & Reporting: Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections. Provide reports on equipment performance and reliability to the management team.
Safety & Compliance: Ensure mechanical systems comply with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
Inventory Management: Monitor and manage spare parts inventory to ensure timely availability for repairs.
Assist in procuring necessary tools, equipment, and materials.
Training & Support: Provide guidance to operators on proper equipment use and care. Participate in training sessions to stay updated on new technologies and practices.
Additional Duties: Support special projects, such as facility upgrades or emergency repairs. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent required; vocational training or certification in mechanics, industrial maintenance, or a related field preferred. At least 2 years of experience in mechanical maintenance, preferably in wastewater or industrial settings. Proficiency in maintaining and repairing mechanical equipment used in wastewater operations. Knowledge of tools, methods, and materials used in industrial mechanical systems. Knowledge of electrical and hydraulic systems preferred. Familiarity with pumps, motors, gearboxes, and other wastewater equipment. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals. Experience with computer-based maintenance management systems (CMMS). Experience with Maintain X. Welding and fabrication experience. Must be able to climb ladders, regularly lift weights up to 50 pounds, and work in a physically demanding environment including varying plant and weather conditions May involve exposure to hazardous chemicals, noise, and odorous conditions
