We are seeking an experienced Quality Control Manager (QCM) to serve as the onsite lead for quality control operations on FAA and Federal Highway projects. This position reports directly to the Quality Control Program Administrator (QCPA) and acts as the primary onsite representative responsible for maintaining production, coordinating testing and inspections, and ensuring the Quality Control Plan is followed on a daily basis.
This role is hands-on and field-driven, ideal for someone who understands airport construction, FAA requirements, and how to keep quality operations moving efficiently in an active airfield environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the onsite QC lead, managing daily quality control activities under the approved QCP
- Coordinate and direct QC inspectors, technicians, and testing activities
- Maintain daily production flow by aligning QC efforts with construction activities
- Ensure all work complies with FAA requirements, project specifications, and contract documents
- Review, track, and report test results, inspections, and deficiencies
- Issue and follow up on corrective actions when quality issues arise
- Prepare and submit daily QC reports and supporting documentation
- Coordinate with the Contractor, Engineer, and Airport on quality-related matters
- Serve as the primary onsite point of contact for QC, escalating issues to the QCPA as needed
- Support safe work practices within an active airport environment
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of airport construction experience in a QC/QA role
- Engineering Degree (Preferably Civil) OR NICET level 2 or higher in any category OR Other equivalent certification
- Demonstrated experience implementing and maintaining a Quality Control Plan
- Familiarity with FAA-funded projects and airfield construction standards OR Familiarity with FHWA-funded projects and highway construction standards
- Strong understanding of testing, inspection, and documentation requirements
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and schedules
- Strong communication and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience as a Quality Control Manager or Lead QC Inspector on airport projects
- Experience with FHWA FP-14
- Experience with FAA P- and L- items
- Background in materials testing (concrete, asphalt, soils, aggregates)
- Comfortable making field decisions and maintaining production pace
