What are the responsibilities and job description for the Compliance Officer III position at Solomon Carter Fuller MHC?
Dr. Solomon Carter Fuller Mental Health Center, operated by the Department of Mental Health (DMH) is seeking a qualified Compliance Officer III to maintain preparedness/compliance for Joint Commission and CMS standards as it relates to Environment of Care, Emergency Preparedness, and Life Safety. Actively participates in various hospital committees to ensure compliance with all standards. Regularly conducts inspections of environment and equipment to ensure safety and compliance standards are met. Collect and analyze data related to safety, security, and equipment, etc. to support Joint Commission and CMS accreditation. Responsible for conducting fire drills, safety training, and emergency management/disaster drills, etc. and ensuring that proper documentation is on file. Perform related work as required.
Please Note: This position is 40 hours per week. The schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
- Maintains proper preparedness/compliance for Joint Commission accreditation, especially in area of Environment of Care, Emergency Preparedness, and Life Safety standards.
- Collects and analyzes data for safety and security issues to support hospital goals and meet Joint Commission and CMS accreditation standards.
- Ensures that Security Systems such as the panic alarms and surveillance cameras on hospital units are maintained.
- Responsible to coordinate medical device inventory, inspections and maintain proper documentation to meet accreditation standards.
- Attends all annual DMH mandatory in-service trainings.
- Participates in various hospital committee meetings to include, Environment of Care, Patient Safety, Performance Improvement, Infection Prevention/Pandemic, etc.
- Coordinate Emergency Management, Safety and Life Safety activities.
- Conducts Environmental Rounds, Fire Drills, Orientations, Safety trainings, etc. and maintains proper documentation.
- Provides oversight of Food Service contract for hospital and ensures compliance of identified Performance Indicators. Monitors recalls from the U.S.D.A. and the F.D.A.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated understanding of the Joint Commission Standards with in-depth knowledge of the Environment of Care and NFPA Life Safety Code.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Ability to deal with the public and staff in effective communications
- Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others
- Ability to maintain a calm manner in stressful and emergency situations.
- Ability to supervise, including planning and assigning work according to the nature of the job to be accomplished, the capabilities of subordinates and available resources; controlling work through periodic reviews and or evaluations; determining subordinates training needs and providing or arranging for such training; motivating subordinates to work effectively; determining the need for disciplinary action and either recommending or imitating disciplinary action.
