Overview:
Direct Support Professional (DSP) — High-Needs, 1:1 Support
Older Adult Client (65 ) | OIS Training Required
We are seeking an experienced Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide 1:1 support for an older adult male (approx. 65 years old) with significant support needs. This role is not entry-level and is best suited for someone calm under pressure, physically capable, and highly skilled in de-escalation and safety-based support.
About the Individual
This client is an older gentleman with a generally pleasant temperament who can escalate quickly and unpredictably. Supporting him safely and respectfully requires strong situational awareness, physical capability, emotional regulation, and professional experience with high-needs individuals.
Required Qualifications (Non-Negotiable)
- Current OIS (Oregon Intervention System) certification
- Demonstrated experience supporting individuals with high behavioral and safety needs
- Ability to remain calm, grounded, and professional during escalations
- Physical strength and stamina sufficient to safely support the individual when needed
- Excellent judgment, boundaries, and situational awareness
- Ability to follow ISP, safety plans, and agency protocols precisely
Preferred Experience
- Prior work with older adults with complex support needs
- Experience in 1:1 high-acuity settings
- Strong communication skills with supervisors, families, and care teams
- Prior experience with ASL and the ability to adapt to the individual's own sign tendencies.
