General Manager – Underground Utilities (Confidential Opportunity)
We are seeking an experienced and driven General Manager – Underground Utilities to lead and grow a well-established utility construction division. This leadership role is responsible for driving business growth, operational excellence, and overall financial performance across multiple regional markets. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in underground utility construction, team leadership, estimating, and strategic business development.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Preconstruction
- Lead procurement efforts and oversee the pursuit, estimating, and execution of underground utility projects.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and industry partners.
- Expand market presence and identify new business opportunities within existing and emerging markets.
- Support contract negotiations and ensure successful project handoff and startup processes.
Operations Leadership
- Serve as the operational and technical leader for underground utility projects.
- Oversee project execution, scheduling, resource planning, and overall operational performance.
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and development opportunities for project management and field teams.
- Collaborate with company leadership to ensure adequate staffing, equipment, and long-term workforce planning.
- Support project teams with problem-solving, change order negotiations, customer relations, and conflict resolution.
Financial Management
- Maintain responsibility for division profitability and financial performance.
- Partner with project teams to review project financials, cost-to-complete forecasts, and overall performance metrics.
- Develop and manage sales forecasts and ensure revenue goals are achieved or exceeded.
- Monitor and manage divisional P&L performance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in underground utility construction, including storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and watermain installation.
- Proven experience leading and developing large teams in a construction environment.
- Strong estimating, operational, and financial management experience, including P&L responsibility.
- Experience working on public infrastructure, municipal, DOT, and/or private utility projects.
- Demonstrated ability to drive business growth while maintaining operational excellence.
- Willingness to travel between regional offices and project locations as needed.
