Position Overview: As Teachers of the Visually Impaired and Orientation & Mobility Specialists, you will play a crucial role in supporting visually impaired students across various educational settings. Your primary responsibility will be to assess students' visual needs, develop personalized educational plans, and deliver specialized instruction to enhance their academic and mobility skills. This is a part-time itinerant position, allowing you to work approximately 20 hours per week and make a meaningful impact in the lives of our students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct assessments to evaluate students' visual abilities and learning needs.
- Develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in collaboration with the school team and parents/guardians.
- Provide direct instruction and support to students in various subjects based on their individualized goals.
- Utilize adaptive technologies and materials to enhance students' learning experiences.
- Teach Orientation and Mobility skills to foster independent travel and safety.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and school staff to ensure students' integration into the mainstream curriculum.
- Regularly monitor and track students' progress, adjusting instructional strategies as needed.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with parents/guardians to keep them informed of their child's progress and address any concerns.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education for the Visually Impaired or related field.
- Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired and/or Orientation and Mobility Specialist.
- Previous experience working with visually impaired students is preferred but not required; new graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, parents, and school staff.
- Ability to travel between different school locations within the Alpharetta area.
