Primary Responsibilities
- Assessment & Evaluation
- Conduct comprehensive speech, language, voice, and fluency evaluations.
- Screen students for possible communication disorders.
- Interpret evaluation results to determine eligibility for services under IDEA.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team assessments.
- Intervention & Therapy
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Provide direct therapy addressing articulation, expressive/receptive language, social communication, fluency, and related disorders.
- Deliver indirect services via consultation and collaboration within the classroom.
- Adapt therapy goals based on student progress.
- Collaboration & Consultation
- Work alongside teachers, special educators, occupational and physical therapists, psychologists, and families.
- Support classroom communication strategies and train staff on supporting students communication needs.
- Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain meticulous records of assessments, therapy sessions, and progress.
- Prepare progress reports and actively contribute to IEP meetings.
- Ensure adherence to federal, state, and district regulations.
- Prevention & Education
- Engage in early intervention and prevention initiatives.
- Educate staff and families regarding communication development and strategies.
- Promote awareness of speech and language challenges.
- Assistive Technology
- Recommend and facilitate use of AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) tools.
- Train students and staff in AAC applications.
- Students ranging from preschool to high school.
- A diverse mix of communication needs including articulation, language, fluency, voice, and pragmatic/social skills.
- May involve working across one or multiple school sites.
- Valid Speech-Language Pathology licensure.
- Certification of Clinical Competence (CCC) preferred.
- Experience in school-based settings with children.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills.
- Familiarity with IDEA and educational regulations is essential.
