Key Qualifications:

• Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) with a passion for supporting educational access.
• Hold a VQAS Level 2 or higher, or an EIPA score of 3.5 or higher.
• Previous experience in a school or classroom environment is highly desirable.
• Skilled in interpreting in academic settings across a variety of subjects and grade levels.
• Excellent communication, adaptability, and collaboration skills.
• Commitment to confidentiality and maintaining students’ privacy.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Facilitate communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and staff through accurate interpretation of spoken and signed language.
• Provide interpreting services in classroom instruction, school events, parent-teacher conferences, and extracurricular activities.
• Serve as a language model and advocate for students, helping foster a supportive, inclusive school environment.
• Collaborate with general and special education teachers, counselors, and administrators.
• Prepare for diverse classroom content to ensure effective interpretation.
• Assist or consult on cultural competency as it relates to deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
