This opportunity is for a Registered Nurse with experience in Post-Anesthesia Care Units (RN-PACU) to provide critical preoperative care in a dynamic surgical environment. The position involves working 36 hours per week on a schedule of three 12-hour day shifts from 5:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Candidates must be flexible to work every other weekend and alternate holidays to ensure consistent patient care coverage.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough preoperative assessments for a diverse patient demographic spanning multiple surgical specialties, including cardiac, plastics, orthopedics, neurosurgery, and more.
  • Initiate intravenous access and perform patient education to prepare patients effectively for surgery.
  • Collaborate closely with anesthesia and surgical teams to facilitate seamless surgical processes.
  • Assist with regional anesthesia such as nerve blocks and support moderate sedation during preoperative interventions.
  • Manage patient care in a Level I trauma center, accommodating urgent and high-acuity cases with adaptability and proficiency.
  • Maintain patient safety and compliance with care standards within an 18-bay preoperative unit.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse with at least two years of experience in an inpatient or ambulatory surgical setting.
  • Current or pending District of Columbia nursing license (proof of pending status must be provided upon application, and license must be obtained prior to the start date).
  • Successful completion of the Relias EKG Rhythm Interpretation Exam with a minimum overall score of 80% and 100% on lethal rhythms.
  • Certifications in ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) and BLS (Basic Life Support).
  • Proficiency in moderate sedation and patient ratio management (1 nurse to 3 patients).
  • Experience with Cerner electronic medical records system preferred.
