Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough preoperative assessments for a diverse patient demographic spanning multiple surgical specialties, including cardiac, plastics, orthopedics, neurosurgery, and more.
- Initiate intravenous access and perform patient education to prepare patients effectively for surgery.
- Collaborate closely with anesthesia and surgical teams to facilitate seamless surgical processes.
- Assist with regional anesthesia such as nerve blocks and support moderate sedation during preoperative interventions.
- Manage patient care in a Level I trauma center, accommodating urgent and high-acuity cases with adaptability and proficiency.
- Maintain patient safety and compliance with care standards within an 18-bay preoperative unit.
- Registered Nurse with at least two years of experience in an inpatient or ambulatory surgical setting.
- Current or pending District of Columbia nursing license (proof of pending status must be provided upon application, and license must be obtained prior to the start date).
- Successful completion of the Relias EKG Rhythm Interpretation Exam with a minimum overall score of 80% and 100% on lethal rhythms.
- Certifications in ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) and BLS (Basic Life Support).
- Proficiency in moderate sedation and patient ratio management (1 nurse to 3 patients).
- Experience with Cerner electronic medical records system preferred.
