Key Responsibilities
Staff & Operations Management
- Supervise, train, and mentor kitchen staff while supporting development and maintaining high performance standards.
- Manage scheduling, daily assignments, and staffing levels for efficient coverage.
- Lead daily pre-service huddles to review menus, safety checkpoints, and service expectations.
- Oversee daily kitchen operations including prep, service flow, cleaning routines, and equipment care.
- Foster a positive, team-centered culture grounded in respect, hospitality, and resident satisfaction.
- Order food and supplies to maintain proper stock and reduce waste.
- Manage inventory using FIFO rotation, accurate labeling, and proper storage.
- Monitor food costs and assist with budget management to ensure cost-effective operations.
- Coordinate with vendors to ensure quality ingredients and timely deliveries.
- Plan and prepare meals that meet nutritional needs, preferences, and therapeutic diet requirements.
- Collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure menus follow physician orders and dietary guidelines.
- Guide staff on texture-modified diets and nutrition considerations specific to dementia care.
- Assist with seasonal menu updates and creative, resident-centered dining options.
- Ensure all food handling and preparation meet local, state, and federal regulations.
- Uphold ServSafe-level sanitation standards throughout all kitchen and dining areas.
- Monitor equipment performance and coordinate repairs as needed.
- Prepare for health inspections and implement corrective actions promptly.
- Conduct tastings and quality checks to ensure consistency, proper portions, and appealing presentation.
- Support the team hands-on during peak meal periods.
- Maintain meal pacing aligned with dementia-friendly dining practices.
- Ensure dining areas remain clean, organized, and welcoming.
- Implement supportive dining approaches such as cueing, simplified choices, and personalized preferences.
- Engage with residents during meals to gather feedback and observe dining needs.
- Collaborate with care teams to promote independence, dignity, and safety at mealtimes.
- Support staff in identifying and addressing cognitive or physical eating challenges.
- Communicate professionally with families regarding dietary needs, expectations, and concerns.
- Support marketing and community events through tastings, themed meals, and celebrations.
- Promote a warm, service-focused atmosphere for residents, families, and guests.
- 4 years of kitchen management or supervisory experience; senior living or healthcare strongly preferred.
- Hands-on knowledge of commercial kitchen operations, food safety, and sanitation regulations.
- ServSafe® certification or ability to obtain upon hire.
- Strong understanding of nutrition, therapeutic diets, and dietary management.
- Excellent leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, resident-centered environment.
- Knowledge of dementia-supportive dining practices or willingness to be trained.
- Compassion, patience, and a genuine desire to serve older adults.
