The Driver is responsible for safely transporting residents to scheduled outings, appointments, and community events while providing courteous assistance and support. This role plays an important part in promoting resident independence, engagement, and overall quality of life.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive scheduled daily and weekly routes for shopping, medical appointments, worship services, entertainment, and special events
- Assist residents on and off the vehicle, including use of wheelchair lifts, stairs, walkers, and wheelchairs
- Load and secure mobility equipment and personal belongings; assist with oxygen tanks following proper safety procedures
- Conduct daily vehicle safety checks including fuel, oil, fluids, lights, and overall condition
- Coordinate vehicle servicing and repairs as needed; maintain service logs and records
- Clean and maintain the interior and exterior of the vehicle, including trash removal and surface cleaning
- Respond calmly and appropriately to vehicle issues or emergencies, following established safety procedures
- Communicate any observed resident concerns or changes in condition to leadership
- Support emergency response or evacuation efforts as needed
- Assist with Life Enrichment activities, events, and errands as requested
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Minimum 1 year of experience working with older adults or in a long-term care setting preferred
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
- Ability to follow safety procedures and emergency protocols
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Compassionate, patient, and service-oriented demeanor
- Ability to organize tasks, manage time effectively, and remain calm under pressure
- Ability to assist residents with mobility needs, including lifting and securing equipment
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including standing, walking, bending, and driving for extended periods
