EL & Intervention Coordinator

THE POSITION

The EL & Intervention Coordinator oversees all aspects of the English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC), including coordinating testing, ensuring compliance with state requirements, and training staff and aides who support test administration.

This role also leads a variety of schoolwide special projects that support student learning and school operations. Responsibilities may include coordinating or providing academic interventions, supporting teacher coverage, planning and supervising instructional aides, training aides for ELPAC, and organizing family engagement events such as literacy workshops.

The EL & Intervention Coordinator works closely with teachers, administrators, and staff to support multilingual learners and promote overall student success.

THE RESPONSIBILITIES

The EL & Intervention Coordinator’s essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Literacy Intervention (TK–5)

  • Plan and co-plan with classroom teachers to design and implement effective guided reading groups aligned to student data, core instruction, and intervention goals.

  • Research, select, and refine a high-quality reading intervention curriculum and materials in collaboration with the Assistant Principal.

  • Co-create and maintain a K–5 reading intervention scope and sequence aligned to core instruction, assessment cycles, and the schoolwide instructional calendar.

  • Plan and deliver small-group literacy instruction during designated intervention blocks using data-driven instructional strategies.

  • Execute daily push-in and/or pull-out intervention support for classrooms based on student need.

  • Build and manage student rosters and intervention schedules in collaboration with the Assistant Principal and instructional aides.

  • Support teachers, instructional aides, administrators, and SPED staff with weekly and daily literacy planning related to intervention.

  • Co-create and maintain a comprehensive data-tracking system that monitors student literacy progress at the individual and cohort level.

  • Analyze and interpret DIBELS and other universal screener data to identify trends, determine intervention placement, monitor progress, and adjust instruction.

  • Lead data conversations and provide actionable feedback to teachers based on DIBELS results and literacy assessment outcomes.

  • Co-lead and facilitate schoolwide professional development focused on literacy instruction and intervention best practices.

  • Lead and coordinate a schoolwide Literacy Night for scholars and families.

  • Research and decide on a reading curriculum and materials for the reading intervention program in collaboration with the assistant principal. 

  • Support to create a scope and sequence for Kinder - 5th reading intervention to align with in-class instruction and the instruction and assessment calendar

  • Support all teachers and instructors (IAs, admin, SPED staff, etc) in weekly and daily planning of reading content for the intervention program

  • Create an intervention schedule and plan for instructional aids.

  • Co-create and maintain a data tracking system through a daily and weekly assessment program that comprehensively tracks reading mastery at the student level school-wide in collaboration with the Assistant Principal

  • Co-create and lead literacy focus whole school professional development.

  • Execute reading small group instruction during the intervention blocks

  • Build a roster and schedule in collaboration with Assistant Principal and instructional assistance based on data to support students in in-class literacy instruction

  • Execute daily push-in or pull-out small group intervention support for classrooms.

  • Lead a whole school literacy night for scholars and families.

  • Support with whole school ELPAC and STEP testing

ELPAC Coordination & English Learner Services

  • Serve as the schoolwide ELPAC Coordinator, overseeing all aspects of Initial and Summative ELPAC administration.

  • Coordinate ELPAC testing logistics, including scheduling, materials management, test security, and testing environments.

  • Train, certify, and support all ELPAC test examiners and proctors to ensure fidelity and compliance.

  • Design and facilitate ongoing professional development for staff on English Learner instruction, ELD standards, language acquisition, and ELPAC-informed instructional practices.

  • Ensure accurate identification, classification, and reclassification of English Learners in alignment with state and federal requirements.

  • Collaborate with administrators and teachers to analyze ELPAC data and integrate results into instructional planning and intervention.

  • Maintain accurate EL documentation, assessment records, and compliance files in student information systems.

  • Support English Learner program monitoring, including progress tracking, intervention alignment, and reclassification readiness.

  • Partner with school leadership to ensure compliance with EL mandates, audits, and reporting requirements.

  • Support family communication related to ELPAC testing, English Learner status, and reclassification processes.


ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the Student Study Team (SST) Lead, coordinating SST processes for students receiving academic and language-based interventions.

  • Schedule, facilitate, and document SST meetings in collaboration with teachers, administrators, support staff, and families.

  • Monitor progress on SST action plans and support teachers with follow-through and instructional adjustments.

  • Collaborate with Special Education staff to support referrals, documentation, and alignment between SST, MTSS, and special education processes.

Position Flexibility Disclaimer: 

While the primary role of the Teacher Interventionist is to provide targeted instructional support to students requiring intervention, we recognize the dynamic nature of the educational environment. Accordingly, there may be occasions when the Teacher Interventionist is asked to serve as a substitute teacher. This responsibility, although not the primary focus of the role, is critical to maintaining the continuity of education and supporting our school's mission. Candidates should be prepared to step into a classroom setting to ensure that high-quality instruction continues in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. This flexibility contributes significantly to our community by ensuring that all students have access to the education they deserve, regardless of unforeseen circumstances.


THE QUALIFICATIONS

Licensure Requirements:

  • Valid California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential (Clear)

  • English Learner Authorization (CLAD or equivalent)

  • DOJ/FBI fingerprint clearance

  • Tuberculosis (TB) clearance

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution

  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification (Adult and Pediatric), issued by an approved provider

Professional Competencies

Highly Preferred

  • Bilingual (Spanish)

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience teaching in an urban school setting with demonstrated evidence of scholar growth and achievement

  • Master Dregree

  • Literacy Certification Preferred
