DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
Under the supervision of an administrator, the Resource Specialist will develop programs and perform necessary duties to ensure the effective operation of the Resource Specialist Program at a school site. The Resource Specialist will work with special education students in three broad areas: direct instruction, assessment, consultation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION:
Duties may include, but not limited to the following: As provided in the California Education Code, Section 56362, the Resource Specialist will: provide direction, instruction and services for those pupils whose needs have been identified in an Individual Education Program and who are assigned to the regular classroom for a majority of the school day. Provide information and assistance to individuals with exceptional needs, their teachers, and their parents. Provide consultation, resource information, and materials regarding individuals with exceptional needs enrolled in the Resource Specialist Program. Evaluate academic skills, monitor pupil progress, participate in the review and revision of students’ IEP’s and participate, as appropriate, on the Individual Education Plan team. Work with an instructional aide.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Incorporated within the essential functions of position are the essential physical requirements: Ability to see for purposes of observing students and reading instructional materials, tests, student records and other printed matter. Ability to understand speech at normal levels in person or on the telephone. Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation in person on the telephone. Ability to operate audiovisual equipment, computer, typewriter, copy machine and other office and classroom equipment with dexterity. Ability to occasionally lift/carry supplies and printed materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Classroom working environment subject to bending, crouching, kneeling, and sitting on the floor to interact with student, pushing/pulling of equipment and reaching in all directions.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
General Elementary, Standard Elementary, Multiple Subject or Appropriate Single Subject Credential. When appropriate and requested by state agencies, the LDS/CLAD or BCC/BCLAD certification may be required, depending upon assignment or be an educator in training for the CLAD or BCLAD.
