What are the responsibilities and job description for the Hospitality Field Representative position at Sojourn?
Our Mission
At Sojourn, we believe exceptional hospitality is created long before a guest walks through the door.
Our Field Hospitality team is the final mile of the guest experience—the people on the ground who make sure every home is clean, functional, beautifully presented, properly stocked, and ready to welcome someone.
The mission of the Hospitality Field Representative is simple:
Protect the home. Support the team. Solve the problem. Create Serenity in Every Sojourn.
Position Overview
Sojourn is seeking a dependable, highly organized, and hospitality-minded Hospitality Field Representative to support our Tidewater and Sandbridge portfolio.
This is a full-time, hourly, field-based position for someone who enjoys being active, solving problems, and taking ownership.
No two days will look exactly the same. You may begin your morning delivering linens, inspect several homes before guest arrival, replace a battery or light bulb, restock supplies, clean a grill, coordinate a maintenance issue, help a guest, and finish the day making sure tomorrow's arrivals are set up for success.
This is not a desk job.
You will spend much of your day driving between properties, walking homes, communicating with our operations team, and handling the small details that make a significant difference to a guest's experience.
We are looking for someone who doesn't simply ask, "Did I complete my task?"
We want someone who asks, "Is the home fully guest ready, and has the problem been solved?"
What You'll Own
1. Pre-Arrival Inspections & Guest Readiness
You are one of the final sets of eyes on a Sojourn before a guest arrives.
Responsibilities include:
- Conduct detailed interior and exterior pre-arrival inspections
- Verify cleanliness, staging, functionality, safety, and presentation
- Make sure beds, linens, towels, amenities, and supplies are properly prepared
- Test important guest-facing items when required, including locks, lights, televisions, Wi-Fi, appliances, and other amenities
- Identify housekeeping or maintenance deficiencies before they become guest problems
- Complete minor resets, touch-ups, and corrections yourself when appropriate
- Immediately communicate issues that require additional support
- Follow through until urgent guest-readiness issues are resolved
Our goal is not to discover problems when the guest arrives. Our goal is to find them first.
2. Guest Experience & Hospitality
You are a visible representative of Sojourn in the market.
You may:
- Assist with guest arrivals and check-ins
- Respond to onsite guest needs
- Deliver missing items or supplies
- Troubleshoot straightforward property issues
- Help turn a frustrating situation into a positive guest experience
- Communicate calmly and professionally with guests
- Coordinate with our remote hospitality team when additional support is required
Hospitality means more than being friendly. It means anticipating needs, reducing friction, and taking responsibility for the experience.
3. Light Maintenance & Hands-On Property Support
Not every problem requires a maintenance technician.
Field Representatives should be comfortable handling straightforward property tasks such as:
- Replacing light bulbs
- Replacing batteries in locks, remotes, and household devices
- Resetting breakers or GFCIs when appropriate
- Tightening loose hardware
- Replacing basic household items
- Troubleshooting simple television, Wi-Fi, or electronic issues
- Completing minor furniture or property adjustments
- Reporting larger maintenance issues with clear photos and descriptions
You are not expected to be a plumber, electrician, or HVAC technician. You are expected to recognize when something isn't right and take the appropriate next step.
4. Linen & Supply Logistics
Getting the right items to the right home at the right time is an essential part of this position.
Responsibilities may include:
- Picking up and delivering clean linens
- Transporting dirty linens to designated laundry or storage locations
- Delivering guest and housekeeping supplies to properties
- Restocking owner closets and operational supply areas
- Helping ensure cleaning teams have what they need before turnovers begin
- Identifying shortages before they affect an arrival
5. Exterior Readiness & Property Care
The guest experience begins before the front door opens.
Field Representatives help maintain exterior presentation by:
- Taking out trash
- Moving trash and recycling bins to and from the curb
- Cleaning and checking grills
- Wiping down outdoor furniture
- Tidying decks, patios, balconies, and entryways
- Removing minor debris from guest-facing areas
- Checking pool and outdoor areas for presentation concerns
- Identifying landscaping, pool, hot tub, trash, or exterior maintenance issues
- Making sure the property's first impression meets Sojourn standards
If you see something that diminishes the guest experience, don't walk past it.
6. Cleaning & Maintenance Team Support
Great hospitality requires teamwork.
You will work closely with cleaners, maintenance technicians, vendors, and our remote operations team to keep properties moving.
This may include:
- Performing quality-control checks after cleaning
- Communicating deficiencies clearly and respectfully
- Helping with small turnover tasks when needed
- Coordinating access for vendors
- Confirming that reported work has actually been completed
- Providing photos, documentation, and real-time updates from the property
- Helping teams solve problems instead of simply passing problems to someone else
7. Inventory & Market Organization
You will help maintain a reliable, organized inventory system for the market.
Responsibilities include:
- Maintaining accurate counts of frequently used supplies
- Updating inventory as products are received or distributed
- Keeping storage areas clean, labeled, and organized
- Identifying low-stock items before they become emergencies
- Communicating purchasing needs proactively
- Using company systems to track supplies and movement between properties
We should not discover that we are out of an essential item when a cleaner or guest needs it.
Communication & Accountability
Because much of our operations team works remotely, excellent communication is essential to this position.
You must be able to:
- Communicate clearly and professionally with team members
- Respond promptly during scheduled working hours
- Provide concise, useful updates
- Take clear photographs and document property conditions
- Escalate urgent issues appropriately
- Ask questions when information is unclear
- Receive feedback professionally
- Follow through without requiring repeated reminders
- Close the loop once an issue has been resolved
At Sojourn, ownership means staying connected to an issue until you know it has reached the right resolution.
Schedule & Availability
Hospitality does not operate on a traditional Monday-through-Friday schedule.
This is a full-time hourly position, and applicants should expect schedules to vary based on guest arrivals, departures, and seasonal demand.
Applicants must be able to:
- Reliably work weekends and holidays
- Work mornings or evenings based on guest needs
- Maintain additional flexibility during peak summer and holiday periods
- Work approximately 8–10 hour days when turnover volume requires it
Overtime will be paid in accordance with applicable federal and Virginia wage-and-hour laws.
Vehicle & Physical Requirements
Because this position travels between properties throughout Tidewater and Sandbridge:
- A valid driver's license is required
- A reliable personal vehicle is required
- Mileage reimbursement is provided for eligible work-related travel between properties
- You must be comfortable driving throughout the market during the workday
- Ability to lift and carry approximately 35 lbs
- Ability to repeatedly walk stairs and multi-level homes
- Ability to bend, reach, lift, carry, push, and pull
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to remain active and on your feet for much of the workday
Qualifications
Preferred Experience
- Hospitality
- Hotels or resorts
- Vacation rentals or short-term rentals
- Property management
- Housekeeping or inspection
- Maintenance or field services
- Other high-touch customer service environments
Experience is valuable, but judgment, reliability, hospitality, and ownership matter just as much.
Technology
Candidates must be comfortable using:
- Smartphones
- Messaging and communication platforms
- Property management applications
- Inspection and task-management software
- Inventory tracking systems
- Photos and video to document field conditions
Who Will Thrive at Sojourn
You may be a strong fit if you:
- Notice details other people miss
- Naturally straighten, fix, or address something that doesn't look right
- Enjoy being active rather than sitting behind a desk
- Can work independently without becoming disconnected from your team
- Communicate well with different personalities
- Stay calm when plans change
- Know how to prioritize when several things need attention simultaneously
- Take pride in finishing something correctly
- Don't believe "that's not my job" is an acceptable response when a guest experience is at risk
- Understand the difference between reporting a problem and owning its resolution
How We Work
Human-Centered Hospitality
We lead with empathy and intention. Technology should make hospitality easier, but there are moments when a human being makes all the difference.
Serenity in Every Sojourn
Our job is to remove friction. Guests should experience calm, confidence, cleanliness, and care—even when significant work happened behind the scenes to create it.
Ownership of the Experience
We own outcomes, not just assignments. If you touch an issue, you help move it toward resolution.
Operational Excellence
Details matter. We are disciplined, proactive, organized, and consistent because small operational failures quickly become large hospitality failures.
Integrity & Professionalism
We communicate honestly, follow through on commitments, respect our teammates, protect our owners' homes, and do what we say we are going to do.
Why This Role Matters
You may be the last Sojourn team member to walk through a home before a family arrives for a vacation they've planned for months.
The guest shouldn't know that linens had to be delivered that morning, that a grill needed cleaning, that a cleaner needed help, or that you discovered and fixed a problem an hour before check-in.
They should simply open the door and feel:
Everything is ready for me.
When this role is done exceptionally well, the effort becomes invisible.
The home is ready. The guest feels cared for. The owner knows their asset is protected. The team knows someone on the ground has ownership.
That is Serenity in Every Sojourn.
