About Soils Southwest

Soils Southwest, Inc. is an established geotechnical, soils, and materials engineering firm serving the Inland Empire and Southern California since 1984 — more than 40 years of work across the region. Our practice covers preliminary soils and foundation investigations, geotechnical studies, infiltration and percolation testing for stormwater (WQMP/BMP) design, grading observation and compaction testing, Alquist-Priolo fault-zone evaluations, and construction observation, supported by an in-house soils and materials laboratory. We serve residential, commercial, industrial, hospitality, and storage development throughout Southern California, primarily San Bernardino and Riverside Counties.

The firm is investing in its next chapter — modernizing the practice, broadening its client base, and expanding into adjacent service lines. We're adding a senior geotechnical engineer to help lead that growth.

The Role

As a Senior Geotechnical Engineer at Soils Southwest, you'll take a leading role in the firm's technical work — directing soils and foundation investigations, guiding the technical staff and the laboratory program, and providing responsible charge for the firm's geotechnical reports, including review, signing, and sealing. You'll work with an established book of repeat clients and referral relationships, and you'll have the ability to shape how the practice operates and grows.

Responsibilities
  • Provide responsible charge for the firm's geotechnical work, including review, signing, and sealing of reports.
  • Direct preliminary soils and foundation investigations and develop design recommendations (bearing capacity, settlement, lateral earth pressures, foundation type and depth, retaining and slope stability).
  • Oversee subsurface exploration and sampling and direct the in-house soils/materials laboratory testing program.
  • Provide infiltration/percolation testing and recommendations for WQMP/BMP stormwater design.
  • Conduct and oversee Alquist-Priolo fault-zone, seismic, and liquefaction evaluations.
  • Direct grading observation, compaction testing, and construction observation.
  • Interface with clients, contractors, and San Bernardino/Riverside County and municipal building and planning departments.
  • Mentor staff and help grow and modernize the firm's services and market reach.
Required Qualifications
  • Active California Civil Engineer license (RCE / PE) in good standing.
  • 5 years of geotechnical engineering experience, with demonstrated competence sufficient to exercise responsible charge.
  • Southern California / Inland Empire experience: soils and foundation evaluations, WQMP/BMP infiltration, grading observation, and Alquist-Priolo / seismic work.
  • Proficiency with standard geotechnical analysis and reporting tools (e.g., gINT, Settle3, Slide/SLOPE, LPILE, liquefaction software).
  • A firm commitment to public safety and the engineering standard of care.
Preferred (Not Required)
  • California Geotechnical Engineer (GE) title, or eligibility and willingness to pursue it .
  • Established local client and referral relationships and a business-development track record.
  • Working relationships with Certified Engineering Geologists (CEG).
  • Familiarity with local agency review processes (San Bernardino and Riverside County building and planning departments and Inland Empire municipalities).
Compensation

We offer competitive, above-market cash compensation in recognition of the senior / responsible-charge nature of the role, commensurate with experience and licensure. Fractional/part-time arrangements considered for the right candidate.
