Position Summary:
The Assistant Soils Scientist I is an entry-level professional who supports soil survey, classification, and evaluation activities. Working under the guidance of the senior soil scientists, this role involves field data collection, soil sampling, and preparation of technical documentation to support septic system design.
Job Description:
- Assist in conducting soil surveys and field investigations and laying out drainfields
- Describe and classify soils using standard methods (e.g., horizon identification, texture, structure, color)
- Assist in preparing technical reports, site sketches and documentation
- Use GPS and field equipment to locate and document sampling sites
- Assist in conducting KSAT/Percolation Testing
- Completing soils summaries and profiles using Microsoft Office
- Follow safety protocols during fieldwork
- Ensure truck is properly equipped with all necessary materials before leaving the office
- Begin training on Septic Design and Health Department Package Preparation
- Assist with preparation of as-builts and completion documents
- Provide Top Notch Customer Service
Minimum/Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Soil Science, Environmental Science, Agronomy, Geology, or a related field
- Basic knowledge of soil science principles and classification systems (e.g., USDA Soil Taxonomy)
- Strong attention to detail and data recording skills
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and terrain conditions
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, data entry, etc.)
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Ability to lift equipment (30 lbs or more)
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Pay: $50,270.92 - $60,541.32 per year
