What are the responsibilities and job description for the CDL-A Commercial Driver position at Soil Plus?
Soil Plus is a locally owned and operated business proudly serving Hawaii County since 1989. As we expand our operations, we are seeking an experienced, dependable, and safety-minded CDL Class A Truck Driver to join our team.
In this role, you will operate heavy-duty dump trucks to deliver soil, compost, cinder, aggregates, mac nut materials, and other construction materials to residential and commercial locations across the Big Island You will also be hauling material to our location. Our fleet includes tandem dumps , super dumps, slip-in trucks and standard semi end dump trucks; some trucks are equipped with automated transmissions, all have air brakes.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate Class A dump trucks and related equipment.
- Haul or Deliver soil, compost, and aggregates throughout the Big Island.
- Operate hydraulic dump systems and slip-in trailer mechanisms.
- Complete pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Ensure loads are properly secured .
- Maintain accurate delivery logs and required documentation.
- Communicate professionally with dispatch, customers, and team members.
- Safely navigate delivery locations, including narrow driveways, steep grades, and construction sites.
- Keep assigned vehicles clean, well maintained, and ready for service.
- Provide excellent customer service at every delivery.
Qualifications
- Valid Hawaii CDL Class A license with a clean driving record.
- At least two years of dump truck or heavy commercial driving experience.
- Strong knowledge of Big Island roads, neighborhoods, and delivery locations.
- Current or former Big Island resident preferred; off-island applications will not be considered.
- Ability to safely operate hydraulic dump systems.
- Strong communication and customer-service skills.
- Ability to work independently .and manage your schedules.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work.
- Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug testing.
- Strong commitment to safety protocol adherence and hazard awareness during all operations
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with slip-in trailer systems.
- Experience delivering to residential and construction sites.
- Knowledge of aggregate and construction materials.
- Five or more years of commercial driving experience.
Pay and Benefits
Pay: $36.00–$42.00 per hour, depending on experience and demonstrated skills.
