What are the responsibilities and job description for the Soil Field Technician position at Soil Consultants Engineering LLC?
Position Summary:
Perform field and laboratory tests on construction materials, including soil, concrete, and aggregates, to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards. This role involves working directly on active construction sites, communicating with contractors, and delivering accurate and timely data to project engineers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform field tests on freshly placed concrete (slump, temperature, air content, unit weight, etc.)
- Cast and transport concrete test cylinders and other samples to the laboratory
- Conduct soil compaction testing using nuclear density gauges
- Observe and document field conditions, testing results, and construction practices
- Prepare clear and concise field and laboratory reports
- Communicate findings to project managers, engineers, and site supervisors
- Maintain and calibrate testing equipment regularly
- Follow all safety protocols and company policies while on job sites
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or technical training in construction materials or civil engineering technology is a plus
- 1 years of experience in construction materials testing preferred, but entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply
- ACI Field Testing Technician – Grade I and/or Nuclear Density Gauge Certification preferred (or willingness to obtain within 3 months)
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and work in outdoor environments for extended periods
- Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and work ethic
