Job Title: Discovery / SACM Architect
Location: Charlotte, North Carolina. Hybrid

Role Overview
As a Discovery / SACM Architect, you will lead the design, governance, and implementation of discovery and configuration management capabilities (Asset, CMDB) across the enterprise, ensuring accurate, timely, and reliable Configuration Management Data (CMDB) to support IT operations, change, incident / problem / risk management, governance, and decision-making. You will work closely with stakeholders across infrastructure, applications, cloud, security, and operations teams to define standards and best practices, drive tooling, integrations, and roadmap planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and enforce architectural standards, governance, policies, and best practices for Discovery and SACM processes (Asset Management, CMDB, configuration item modeling, relationships, lifecycle).
- Lead the design and solution architecture for discovery tooling (e.g. ServiceNow Discovery, Cloud discovery modules, APM, etc.), CMDB population, reconciliation, and integration with source systems.
- Drive the adoption of CSDM / CDMB (Common Service Data Model / Configuration Data Model Best practices) and alignment with enterprise data architecture.
- Recommend and evaluate discovery / CMDB tools, frameworks, and integrations (e.g. for hardware, software, cloud, network, virtualization, containers).
- Collaborate with infrastructure, cloud, application, security, and operations teams to identify data sources, connectors, APIs, data ingestion methods, and reconciliation logic.
- Ensure high data quality, integrity, and consistency across CMDB, with mechanisms for reconciliation, deduplication, verification, and anomaly detection.
- Define and maintain the roadmap for SACM / discovery capabilities, including enhancements, tool upgrades, governance, metrics, and maturity progression.
- Lead proof-of-concepts, pilots, and migrations for new discovery or CMDB modules or providers.
- Define architecture artifacts: solution design, reference models, integration diagrams, data flows, security, capacity, performance, and scalability considerations.
- Mentor and provide guidance to engineers, analysts, and other architects in the domain.
- Participate in architecture reviews, change approval, and risk assessments for new systems or changes affecting configuration data.
- Monitor industry trends, emerging tools, and best practices in discovery, asset management, and CMDB; recommend innovations.
Qualifications / Experience (Required & Preferred)
Required
- 7 years of experience in IT architecture, IT operations, or related domains (discovery / CMDB / configuration management).
- Hands-on experience implementing and configuring discovery tools (e.g. ServiceNow Discovery or equivalent).
- Deep understanding of SACM / CMDB / Asset Management processes, including lifecycle, relationships, dependencies, reconciliation, and data integrity.
- Experience with CSDM / CDMB frameworks and best practices.
- Strong experience integrating multiple data sources, APIs, connectors, ETL, and automated ingestion into a CMDB.
- Solid skills in solution architecture, data modeling, integration design, and design documentation.
- Excellent communication & stakeholder management skills - ability to work cross-functionally with business, infrastructure, security, operations, and development teams.
- Ability to lead and influence technical decisions at senior levels.
- Understanding of cloud environments (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform) and discovering cloud resources/assets.
- Experience in change, incident, and problem management - leveraging CMDB / SACM data to support these domains.
Preferred
- Certifications in ServiceNow (e.g. Certified Implementation Specialist for Discovery, CMDB)
- Experience in enterprise-scale deployments of discovery / SACM / CMDB.
- Experience with microservices, containers, virtualization, network discovery, and monitoring tools (e.g. scanning, SNMP, APIs).
- Experience with automation, scripting, reconciliation engines, and data transformation (Python, Java, ETL).
- Experience with governance, metrics, dashboards, health scoring of CMDB data.
- Familiarity with enterprise architecture frameworks (e.g. TOGAF) and service management frameworks (ITIL).
Key Metrics / Success Criteria
- Accuracy, completeness, and consistency of CMDB data (low error, low drift)
- Number of integrations / data sources onboarded
- Reduction in manual configuration data reconciliation efforts
- Adoption of discovery & SACM practices across IT domains
- Compliance with architecture and governance standards
- Time to detect / correct configuration data issues
- METrics / dashboards for CMDB health, data quality, usage
Working Conditions / Other
- May require occasional travel or meetings with global teams
- Collaboration with cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders
- Hybrid work model (office remote) depending on organizational policy
