What are the responsibilities and job description for the PLC/SCADA Engineer III position at Soffa Electric Inc?
SUMMARY OF POSITION
This position requires a senior-level engineer capable of designing, programming, commissioning, and supporting SCADA, PLC, and HMI systems across multiple facilities. Along with being a strong asset to our Industrial Automation team supporting Water and Wastewater infrastructure projects.
As a Level III Engineer, you will take technical ownership of automation projects, lead integration and networking efforts, and mentor junior automation engineers.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design, develop, and implement SCADA systems using platforms such as AVEVA Wonderware, Ignition, or Rockwell FactoryTalk.
- Familiar with PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Schneider Electric, GE, Siemens, etc.).
- Develop and maintain HMI graphics, control logic, alarms, data historians, and reporting tools.
- Design, configure, and maintain industrial control networks, including managed switches, firewalls, VLANs, and secure remote access.
- Set up and manage virtualized server environments (VMware, Hyper-V) for SCADA and telemetry applications.
- Integrate instrumentation, telemetry, and networked control systems for water and wastewater applications.
- Participate in system commissioning, factory and site acceptance testing (FAT/SAT), and field troubleshooting.
- Implement and support redundancy, failover, and cybersecurity best practices in control systems.
- Coordinate with IT/OT network teams to ensure reliable communication between field devices and centralized servers.
- Maintain detailed documentation including P&IDs, I/O lists, network diagrams, and control narratives.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior automation engineers
- Provide ongoing support, maintenance, and system optimization for client facilities.
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, SKILLS AND/OR ABILITIES REQUIRED
Minimum Experience: 7 years of hands-on experience in SCADA, PLC, and HMI programming within the Water/Wastewater industry
Degree Required: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Industrial Automation, or a related field.
Certification(s) Preferred: AVEVA Certification Developer, Ignition Gold, or Rockwell FactoryTalk Certified. OSHA 10/30 or equivalent safety training.
Abilities and Technical Skills:
- Proficiency with SCADA/HMI platforms (Wonderware, Ignition, FactoryTalk View, ClearSCADA, etc.).
- Strong experience in industrial networking (EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP, OPC UA, DNP3, radio telemetry).
- Proven ability to set up, configure, and maintain control networks and virtualized server environments.
- Understanding of ISA, NIST, and AWWA standards related to automation and control systems.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.

Salary : $140,000 - $160,000
