Freight Dispatcher - Indianapolis, IN

Job Description:
Sodrel Truck Lines is seeking an experienced and dependable Freight Dispatcher to join our Indianapolis operations team.
This position is responsible for coordinating the daily movement of established customer freight and supporting approximately 45 professional drivers. The Freight Dispatcher works closely with drivers, customers, and operations management to keep loads moving safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
This is primarily a dispatch and operations position, rather than a freight sales or load-broker position. The ideal candidate understands trucking operations, communicates effectively with drivers, and can manage a busy dispatch operation while responding quickly to the changes and challenges that come with daily freight transportation.
Key Responsibilities

• Dispatch and coordinate approximately 45 drivers and their assigned freight
• Manage primarily established customer freight and scheduled loads
• Assign loads based on driver availability, customer requirements, equipment availability, and Hours of Service
• Monitor pickups, deliveries, driver progress, and load status throughout the day
• Communicate load assignments, schedule changes, and operational information to drivers
• Maintain accurate dispatch and load information in McLeod
• Communicate with customers regarding scheduling, load status, delays, and service needs
• Respond to breakdowns, delays, scheduling conflicts, and other operational issues
• Coordinate with drivers, customers, maintenance, and management to resolve issues efficiently
• Assist with load planning and effective utilization of drivers and equipment
• Maintain accurate dispatch records and required documentation
• Provide professional and timely customer service
• Escalate safety, service, or operational concerns to management when appropriate
• Support other transportation and operational duties as needed

Job Requirements:

• Previous freight dispatch, trucking, logistics, or transportation operations experience strongly preferred
• McLeod transportation management system experience preferred
• Knowledge of freight transportation and dispatch operations
• Working knowledge of DOT Hours of Service and driver compliance requirements
• Ability to effectively coordinate a high-volume driver operation
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, particularly when working with professional drivers
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Ability to manage multiple drivers, loads, deadlines, and changing priorities simultaneously
• Ability to remain organized and professional in a fast-paced transportation environment
• Strong attention to detail and follow-through
• Computer proficiency, including email and Microsoft Office
• Dependable attendance and ability to consistently work the scheduled hours
• High school diploma or equivalent required

Wage Range: 60000.00 - 65000.00 per year
