Bethany School – Lower School Teacher (Grades K–3)
Position Overview
Bethany School seeks a full-time Lower School Teacher (Grades K–3) beginning in August 2026. Successful candidates are culturally competent, responsible, caring, and enthusiastic educators who are passionate about working with young learners and fostering a strong academic and social-emotional foundation.
Lower School classrooms are self-contained, with teachers responsible for a homeroom of up to 15 students. Teachers plan and deliver instruction across all core subject areas, including English language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Lower School teachers collaborate closely with their grade-level partner, receive support from a mentor teacher in their first year, and are supported by the Lower School Lead and Assistant Head for Academic Affairs.
Primary Responsibilities
The Lower School Teacher will:
- Plan and deliver instruction in all core content areas, including English language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.
- Create a structured, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Implement effective classroom management strategies aligned with school expectations.
- Assess student learning using a variety of methods and use data to inform instruction.
- Communicate regularly and professionally with families regarding student progress.
- Collaborate with grade-level partners, specialists, and support staff.
- Support students' social, emotional, and academic development.
- Participate in school meetings, professional development, and community events.
- Uphold and model Bethany School's mission, values, and Episcopal identity.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates will possess or demonstrate the following:
- Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field required; Master's Degree preferred
- Experience working with elementary-aged students (K–3 preferred)
- Understanding of child development in early elementary grades
- Commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion
- Strong classroom management and instructional skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively in team settings
- Proficiency in instructional technology (e.g., Google Workspace, classroom platforms)
- Dependability, professionalism, and sound judgment
- Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development
