About the Role:
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) - District Council of Madison is seeking a dedicated, proactive Safety Manager to oversee safety and compliance across our diverse operations. In this role, you will travel to various worksites—including retail stores, warehouses, production facilities, and business offices—to conduct audits, investigate incidents, and identify potential risks.
As a champion for workplace safety, you will collaborate with leadership to develop risk-reduction strategies, lead OSHA-compliant training, and foster a deeply inclusive, safety-first culture.
Job Details:
- Job Type: Full-time, Exempt
- Schedule: 40 hours/week | Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (with occasional weekend shifts)
- Salary: $65,000 – $75,000 / year (commensurate with experience)
- Location: Madison, WI area (Must reside within 35 miles of Madison for location safety protocol; requires travel between local sites)
Key Responsibilities:
- Audits & Inspections: Conduct routine and random safety walk-throughs across warehouses, thrift stores, processing centers, and offices to ensure compliance with OSHA and local codes.
- Training & Development: Organize, lead, and document OSHA-compliant safety orientation and ongoing training for new and existing staff.
- Incident Investigation: Investigate accidents, injuries, and near-misses; prepare comprehensive reports and present findings to the monthly Safety Committee.
- Policy & Emergency Planning: Maintain and update the safety manual and building Emergency Action plans; facilitate quarterly emergency drills.
- Leadership Collaboration: Partner with the Facilities Manager and Operational Leaders on permitting, inspections, hazard identification, and preventative maintenance.
- Culture & Inclusion: Build authentic relationships across diverse teams and play an active role in fostering a culture of equity, inclusion, and safety awareness.
Requirements:
- OSHA 30-Hour required
- ASP (Associate Safety Professional and/or CSP (Certified Safety Professional and/or CSM (Certified Safety Manager) preferred
- Proven experience in a safety role
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA standards, guidelines and practices
- Experience in developing safety programs and policies
- Experience in creating and implementing training programs that are OSHA compliant
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate and effectively interact with people across cultures, ranges of ability, ethnicities, and races.
- Demonstrate the implementation of best practices as required by the SVdP Safeguarding policy when interacting with children and vulnerable adults.
- For the safety of the clients SVdP serves and as per the Safeguarding Policy, this position requires the successful completion of a criminal background check.
Physical & Environmental Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and move autonomously throughout diverse work environments.
- Ability to lift/move up to 25 lbs. independently, and up to 50 lbs. with assistance.
- Comfortable working in environments (thrift stores, donation docks, processing centers) that may contain dust, debris, or allergens, and areas that are only partially climate-controlled.
