What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accountant position at Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM)?
The Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) seeks a capable and highly motivated individual for the position of Accountant.
Reporting to the Controller, the Accountant supports the day-to-day financial operations of SIAM by ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant accounting practices. This role is responsible for processing accounts payable and accounts receivable, preparing monthly journal entries, assisting with month-end and year-end close activities, and reconciling balance sheet accounts. The Accountant will help maintain the general ledger, support budget monitoring, and collaborate with department leaders to ensure proper coding and financial reporting. Additional duties include maintaining financial documentation and reporting, monthly close and account reconciliations, supporting annual audits, assisting with payroll and benefits reconciliations, and contributing to process improvements that strengthen internal controls and overall financial efficiency, and other ad hoc projects, as needed.
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or another related area plus at least 5 years of related experience required; knowledge of Sage accounting system preferred. Candidates must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
This position is full-time and is asked to work at SIAM’s office in Philadelphia, PA during training. A hybrid schedule is possible after a period of training.
The pay range is 65K - 80K.
