ASE Certified Master Fleet Mechanic

Overview

The ASE Certified Master Fleet Mechanic is responsible for keeping SEA's fleet safe, reliable, compliant, and ready for service. This hands-on position performs preventive maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on SEA vehicles; identifies and coordinates specialized vendor work; and maintains complete fleet maintenance records. The mechanic supports SEA's mission by minimizing downtime and helping ensure dependable transportation for passengers, including individuals who use wheelchairs and other mobility devices.

Duties

· Inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair fleet vehicles, including gasoline engines, transmissions, brakes, steering and suspension, electrical and electronic systems, heating and air conditioning, starting and charging systems, tires, and related components.

· Develop and complete preventive maintenance schedules using mileage, time, manufacturer recommendations, operating conditions, and applicable inspection requirements.

· Perform routine services such as oil and filter changes, fluid checks, brake service, tire rotation and replacement, battery service, tune-ups, and other scheduled maintenance.

· Conduct pre-service, post-repair, safety, and roadworthiness inspections; identify unsafe conditions; and remove vehicles from service when continued operation could create a safety risk.

· Inspect wheelchair-accessible vehicle components, including ramps, lifts, doors, interlocks, mobility-device securement equipment, occupant restraints, and related electrical or hydraulic systems. Perform only work for which properly trained and authorized, and refer specialized repairs to qualified vendors.

· Respond to vehicle breakdowns and urgent maintenance needs during working hours and, when assigned, provide reasonable after-hours support.

· Use diagnostic scanners, service information, technical service bulletins, meters, lifts, tire equipment, and other shop tools safely and correctly.

· Document inspections, diagnoses, repairs, labor, parts, mileage, warranties, recalls, and vendor work in SEA's maintenance records or fleet management system.

· Monitor parts, fluids, tires, shop supplies, and commonly used inventory; request purchases in accordance with SEA procedures and safeguard organizational tools and equipment.

· Obtain estimates and coordinate outside repairs when work requires specialized equipment, certification, warranty coverage, or additional capacity; verify completed work and associated invoices.

· Track recalls, registrations, inspection due dates, and maintenance intervals; promptly notify management of safety concerns, recurring failures, excessive repair costs, or recommended vehicle replacement.

· Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work area; follow OSHA-aligned practices, SDS requirements, lockout/tagout procedures, spill-control practices, and proper disposal requirements for oil, tires, batteries, refrigerant, and other regulated materials.

· Communicate professionally with drivers and staff, investigate reported vehicle concerns, explain repair status clearly, and help employees recognize issues that require immediate attention.

· Follow SEA policies, confidentiality requirements, funding or contract requirements, and all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

· Perform other related duties as assigned.

Pay: $26.00 - $30.00 per hour
