What are the responsibilities and job description for the Kitchen Manager - Social Eats Café (Oneonta, NY) position at Social Eats Cafe Project 607?
About Us
Social Eats Café is a European-inspired, full-service café and bar in the heart of downtown Oneonta - breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, specialty coffee, and a full bar program, all built on scratch-made food and locally sourced ingredients. Since 2022, we've been driven by one idea: do good, be kind, spread positivity. We're growing, and we're looking for a Kitchen Manager who wants to help build something bigger than a single café.
What You'll Own
- Hire, train, and schedule our line cooks, prep cooks, bakers, and dishwashers
- Run kitchen opening and closing procedures and our daily/weekly/monthly cleaning systems
- Own food safety — temperature logs, cutting board protocols, cook temps, dating and labeling
- Manage inventory, ordering, receiving, and food cost against budget
- Keep our recipes and portioning consistent, station to station, shift to shift
- Own kitchen equipment maintenance and repair requests
This Is a Working Manager Role
You'll be on the line during peak service, not behind a desk. We expect our Kitchen Manager to spend roughly 60–70% of shift time hands-on — working the line, pulling temperature checks yourself, training new cooks at the station — and the remaining time on scheduling, ordering, and cost review. If you like being close to the food, this is built for you.
What You Bring
- 3 years of kitchen management or sous chef experience, ideally in a breakfast/brunch-heavy, high-volume environment
- ServSafe certification (or willingness to obtain within 30 days)
- Experience managing inventory, ordering, and food cost
- A track record of running a clean, organized line under pressure
- Comfort training and holding a team accountable to a standard, not just "by feel"
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary: $48,000–$60,000/year, based on experience
- Performance bonus: 5–10% of base salary annually, paid quarterly, tied to food cost %, health inspection performance, and cleaning/waste-log accuracy
- Total target compensation: $50,000–$66,000/year
- Complimentary shift beverage 20% off food while on shift; 20% employee discount off-shift
- Paid time off
- Certification reimbursement (ServSafe and related food safety credentials)
- Annual compensation review with a documented path toward Assistant Manager/General Manager roles as we open new locations
Pay: $48,454.66 - $58,354.00 per year
Benefits:
- Employee discount
- Paid time off
- Paid training
Work Location: In person
Salary : $48,000 - $60,000
